The Good Pg. 60 There’s some sort of compelling dialogue and it’s not too bogged down with Edwards internal monologue. Pg. 62 Apparently some of Charlie’s thoughts were “concealed” from Edward. That’s kind of a cool touch. The Bad Pg. 50 - 51 Carlisle is so awkwardly written. The way he talks is weird. I’m kind of picturing him as a Buhhdist monk. “I’m sorry you’re suffering, Edward but you should do what you can to keep the Swan child alive. Even if it means that you must leave us again.” - Carlisle. Also calling her a child feels SO GROSS, given that Edward is going to be in a romantic relationship with her. There are definitely some disturbing undertones of pedophillia with this series. Pg. 52- 54 More discussion about will he or won’t he stay? Will he or won’t he kill her? Boring. Pg. 54 - 60 I wish Bella had been crushed by the truck. This scene is boring. Edward is annoying. His internal monologue is so wordy. And now he’s scared of exposure? Exposure to a bunch of weak humans who couldn’t do anything to him? Even if some of the humans started to catch on to the fact that he’s not human I don’t think their first assumption would be that he’s a vampire. Also he doesn’t kill humans so what actual reason would humans have to run him out of town? He hasn’t done anything. There are so many mountains being made out of molehills. Pg. 61 An EMT arrives and Edward tells him Bella hit her head. She doesn’t like that he said that because apparently she would rather “suffer in silence.” … THAT’S NOT A GOOD THING! That is not a virtue! Maybe it is if you’re mormon but it’s not healthy! Stephanie is trying to make Bella look selfless but Bella just looks stupid. She just hit her head and would rather “suffer in silence.” Would she rather die in silence also because she doesn’t want to be a bother to someone whose JOB it is to make sure she’s okay! If there are any teenage Twilight fans reading this please know this: It is fine to like this series. It has some compelling side characters. I get it. But please do not look to Bella to be a role model. It’s okay to ask for help. You do not need to suffer in silence. Also if people who see you as a child make romantic advances on you, get the fuck away from them! It doesn’t mean you’re mature. It means they’re a pedophile! This is not a normal or healthy dynamic. If it is safe to do so, you should report the pedophile but unfortunately it is not always safe to be open about this but I’m going to save that for another day. Just be smart about it and if there is an adult that has PROVEN themselves to be trustworthy report any sus or creepy shit. Alright moving on…. Pg. 63- 64 I hate Carlisle. He’s too virtuosos. His dialogue is so robotic. Now I’m picturing him as a robot Buddhist monk. Actually I like that. That would track for him. OMG!!!!! What if Carlisle was secretly a robot built by the volturi to enslave humans but then found inner peace in Buddhism….so he turns from his evil ways and tries to build an army or benevolent vampires to take down the volturi and rule over humans and vampires so they can all live in peace? I WOULD LOVE TO READ THAT! XD Pg. 65 Bored. Pg. 66 Carlisle tries to make a joke about Bella’s mom dropping her on her head because apparently she has a lot of healed contusions. That felt SO out of character for Carlisle, the robot monk. It feels like such a mean spirited joke. (Maybe it’s programming from the volturi that still needs to be erased. Lol) Pg. 67- 68 Bella is cringe and Edward worships Carlisle. Okay I get it now! Carlisle isn’t a benevolent robot. He desires to be worshiped. He’s not buddhist, he's a sleazy robot televangelist who desires to take down his creators, the volturi. He started a cult with Edward, Esme, Alice, Jasper, Emmitt and Rosialie and has brainwashed all of them. Seriously Carlisle comes across more like a cult leader. Pg. 68 - 72 I’m so BORED! Thank god it’s over. Bella and Edward are the least interesting characters next to robot cult vamp dad Carlisle. Overall thoughts I hate Carlisle and I think that’s because he’s so morally righteous. He comes off so morally pure, it’s aggravating. Most people have some morally grey, thoughts and beliefs. We aren’t pure and we don’t always do the right thing. Hell, sometimes we do the wrong thing and just don’t care. Carlisle is good. That’s all there is to him. He’s boring and cringey. The most interesting characters in this book are the ones that are morally grey. Except Alice. She’s a rare exception of a character that is morally pure but it works for her. I think because she comes off so genuine and you can tell she cares. Carlisle comes off as weirdly uncaring and I can’t put my finger on why. Maybe it’s because of how his dialogue is written? He just comes off very formal. I hate how Stephanie will describe certain things Bella does as “childish.” I can understand once or twice but it feels like Edward sees her as an actual child…then is attracted to her. This is so gross.
