The other day I was (half jokingly) probing for reasoning behind the appeal of fireworks and I couldn't come up with anything other than it being aesthetically pleasing while triggering a surge of adrenaline to some people. Personally I never understood the appeal but that is kind of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What does matter is that they are harmful to the environment, animals, plants and ourselves. I'm not saying that we should abolish fireworks completely but until there is a more eco-friendly alternative I think there should at least be tighter restrictions placed on them. The same goes with releasing balloons into the the sky. I find this to be ignorant and irresponsible really. What goes up, must come down right? Despite it being celebratory it does not justify the pollution in my opinion. I'm not trying to be a killjoy but I think we should seriously consider the fact that there are habits/activities that we do that have negative repercussions. Also I'm not saying that I'm perfect either but I try to make an effort to pick up litter when I see it. I should also start using reusable grocery bags among other things. I see no excuse why everyone can't be more environmentally conscious even if it's just something small. It has to start somewhere and we shouldn't just toss our arms up and say "oh well, the planet is already fucked". I think that is kind of a lazy, pessimistic and inconsiderate way of thinking. We should think of the future generations.
Should we re-evaluate everything impractical that continues to harm the environment?
