a disk jockey's midnight sleep
standing up like a horse
writing love letters across the face of a tired town
the dream is unfortunately you
I stretch your puppy love out of my bones
but I still want a kiss in the grass
stars all sputtering in our mouths
I'll throw you a bone, babe
the bone loan gets an addendum
and then another
and another
the bone loan is four years long
the bone loan is a crooked old tree bearing mouth-stars
freshly bankrupt and naked
the bone is a sharp edge, a sudden gasp,
a clear wrenching of the seams
the bone lives in a shoebox
of its own currency now
a haunted, lovetorn fossil
next to the radio love letters and the sally mann picture and
the flimsy memory of a disk jockey

that's potent writing. and sally mann even, to boot! crisp tight images and a very attractive Tom Waits, late 60's in the village, vibe. i really enjoyed that. made me want to write. and i love the word addendum. always have. want to tattoo it on my forearm.

She is my favourite poet and your poetry reminds me of hers but angrier. And I love it. Also Creature Fear sent me viscerally back into my Bon Iver phase and I'm into that also
