misconceptions with ds/dsi/3ds homebrew

i've seen loads of times people complain in forums about the "dangers" of homebrew on ds systems, and i wanted to make a test blog post (half to see what a spacehey blog looks like, half to clear up some misconceptions with DS handhelds lol)

as DS/DSi/3DS systems are discontinued and as are their online services for the most part, homebrew, romhacking, or whatever else you do on your system will not have you banned from online play.

and to further clarify, the final ban wave of hacking users for 3DS occurred in 2017, and since then nintendo announced it will no longer ban any more 3DS users. (the same of course applies to previous-gen DS systems too)

yes, hacking your switch has its own risks (and can certainly risk you getting banned from switch online play), but the only risk you will face hacking your DS system is malicious programs disguised as ROMS, or homebrew applications. be careful what you download, and always have a backup!

when going into handheld homebrew, use these guides as they're trusted sources for hacking your system.

https://dsi.cfw.guide/  -> DSi

entertaining to read this back now due to the backhanded nonsense nintendo is trying to pull on the modding/homebrew scene

that update on the 3ds was a huge surprise. hopefully future cfw updates work around it
