recently, early instant messaging platforms such as aim, msn, and yahoo! have been making a comeback.
2 all those who didn't know, aim, msn, icq, and yahoo! were sum of the earlier instant messaging platforms popular during the 1990s and 2000s. they remained popular during those times, however, by the early 2010s, those platforms started 2 decline in favor of skype, imessages, snapchat, hangouts, whatsapp, and other instant messaging platforms released during the 2010s, causing the aforementioned platforms 2 shut down, with msn in 2012, aim in 2017, and yahoo! entirely in 2018. icq is still going strong, but has drastically changed over the yrs.
yahoo! messenger disabled the chatroom service in 2012, and a newer version of the platform was released in 2015, replacing the old one, before it completely shut down in 2018. yahoo! messenger briefly came back in late 2018 as yahoo! together, however, just shortly after it was released, in early 2019, that service was shut down as well.
i never grew up using any of those platforms, but now that social networking platforms popular during the 2000s r making a comeback, i have made my accounts a few months ago.

choose the version u think will work best 4 ur computer, create a completely NEW account (as u cannot use ur old emails and passwords b4 they all shut down), and ur back in the 1990s and 2000s.
it's also important 2 note that the creators of both sites r still working on getting all the versions of the platforms back, and it might take a while, so, yea, just thought u should know.

upd8 (11/13/22): i realized that phoenix is promoting extremist right-wing news websites, and has been hacked more than once. therefore, i have lost faith in the platform. i heard that a new service, nina.chat, will b releasing all versions of aim, icq, classic aol, yahoo! messenger, and even q-link very soon. nina has already released yahoo! messenger (versions 5.0-6.0) 4 now, but once they release aim and icq, i am gonna delete my phoenix account and transfer 2 aim and icq via nina. in the meantime, i am gonna keep using aim and icq via phoenix despite the circumstances. thanks y'all 4 reading. luv u!!
upd8 (5/8/24): aim and icq on nina.chat r now accesible 4 those who don8ed 2 their paypal, patreon, boosty, and buy me a coffee, whether u r a gamma, beta, alpha, or any other kind of support. i don8ed sum $, so not only do i have access 2 msn and yahoo!, i now have access to aim and icq as well.
upd8 (10/18/24): i am now using aim 7.5.8.2, as versions 6.0-7.5 r now available on nina.chat, so if y'all wanna im me on aim, i'm now on the l8est version of aim that nina.chat has out now.

PLEASE!!! PLEASE don't use Phoenix!! the admin is a massive bigot and proudly displays news by InfoWars on the Phoenix homepage. also one of the servers for Phoenix was running on UNPATCHED Windows Server 2003 and because of that, it was hacked 3 times in a row and resulted in everyone's account getting deleted.
if you REALLY want AIM, wait for NINA. if you want Yahoo Messenger, you can use the existing NINA for that. if you want ICQ, you can use KICQ.
i've heard abt the admin, his extremist right-wing political views, and his advertisements of extremist right-wing news websites. i'm also aware of phoenix getting hacked more than once, so i've kinda lost hope 4 the platform. i still have my account from phoenix, which is surprising tbh.
and yes, i am gonna w8 until nina comes out w aim and icq, but i'm still gonna use aim and icq from phoenix in the meantime. and yes, i do use the yahoo! messenger that nina currently has in store 4 us. idk abt kicq tho.

yup. i found out abt them not 2 long ago, and tbh, they r still working on getting all the versions of each messaging platform back, but overall, it's working pretty well 4 me.

Interesting I had friends your age who were on msn. Were you born in 2002? In Canada no one had AIM but everyone had MSN it wasn't until 2011 that MSN became unpopular.

Ya lol all the kids in my neighborhood were addicted to the computer so we had msn. It was 2010 so Myspace was over by then. Lol having msn at that age was kind of useless we just said let’s go to the park or let’s go on club penguin or let’s watch annoying orange hahaha. If I was a teenager then, I’d appreciate it more lol there was drama though, I would add my older sisters friends and they would always say like why are you on here, you’re gonna get raped. I’m like why are you on here I’m 10 but you’re 13 what’s the difference??? Lol. I guess msn was still useful then since smartphones were just starting to come out but they took over within a year-2 years. My parents barely supervised me on the computer had they not been working so much I wouldn’t be allowed to be on msn.
