3 more Obscure-ish Games I wanna gush about

I’m tired of moping. Im gonna talk about 3 games that range that are moderately obscure- ok the first is only moderately but it counts for me.

Risk of Rain 2. If you’ve played the game, thats hell of enough of an introduction. If not, wow. I dont even know where to start. Two games I mentioned last time were rougelikes, and this one is too. However, its in 3d, and holy shit does it pull it off. Its a run and gun rougelike where you play as survivors in a plethora of mysterious environments as you fight off hoards of monsters and activate teleporters to progress. Three things I wanna highlight, cuz I could go on and on about this game. First off, the movement. It feels so fucking great to move around the map, its so smooth and seamless. Almost every character has a movement abilty that gives them a distinct playstyle, and once you start getting movement items and abilities it feels even more polished. You can play around the terrain to dodge attacks and block projectiles, and you start to learn the placements of teleporters and where chests probably are. Second, the items. I’m not going to go into detail, but one thing this game does so well and simply is conveying progression. As you amass more items, you can feel where parts of your strategy are complimented by which items, and you can really feel when your character becomes super strong. Late game, you feel like a god, and your hard work for surviving that long pays off. Last thing- this is getting long. The difficulty is amazing. Its a hard game, and has this unique time limit gimmick where difficulty increases as you take more time. Its a great game for casual and multiplayer alike, and if your a fan of 3rd person shooters or rougelikes, holy shit atleast try it once addicting as hell.

If you played Risk of Rain and were all: “dude this game has no rain, false advertising refund now” well do I have a game for you! Rain World is a beautifully frustrating 2d platformer/exploration game that is an underrated gem. You play as this cute lil slug cat creature in a fucking terrifying world. Dont let the cover art fool you, the game is hard and gritty. Almost everything you encounter is out for your blood, and its you job to explore the terrifying world and survive. Bloodthristy predators to carnivorous plants, nothing is more deadly than the torrential rain that drowns the landscape every 15 min or so. Nothing can escape it, and it is your job to make progress and find shelter as you adapt to the wild landscape. The big draw of this game for me is the mood: it makes you feel like a creature learning about an cruel and dangerous world. Bad shit happens and feels unfair, and you reset from your save point and try again. The enemy Ai feels like wild animals, and you get to decide if you want to play like a hunter and kill everything or hide and run from all dangers. If you do end up playing the game, the only thing I can give as advice is to explore a try shit out. You’ll have moments where you’ll think “tf i didnt know it did that?! how was I supposed to know?” its frustrating, but thats the point. Learning along the way is part of the fun. Grab a friend, sit down on the couch, and have fun enjoying tense chases and trying to plan out navigating the eerie steampunk yet abandoned terrain. There is much to be discovered, if you try to find it.

Last game, I’ll try to make it short. Monument Valley is a short but sweet puzzle game I played on mobile a while ago. I dont know if its on PC, but if you’re the kind of person who’s bored and has a lot of free time on your phone and nothing else to do, give this game a try. Its a beautifully artistic puzzle game with simple mechanics that play around with perspective. Its simple and short, and is just a mindless kinda game where you enjoy the pretty colors and moving parts. It fucks with your head sometimes, but making progress in levels is fullfilling. I’m not the biggest puzzle game fan, but something about the look of this game, visual aesthetic and calming music just made me relaxed and have a decent time. Not the hardest game in the world or most engaging, but try it out I’d say. One of the better mobile games, and one of the few I respect for its uniqueness.

There, ive ranted enough for today. Go check these games out or something. I think I’ll make this a regular thing. So if you want to hear me talk about games I dont hear others talk about, I’ll probably make some more of these. (ill do it if people see this or not, its fun)
