For the rare Christian Emo

While Christian Rock has been a popular enough thing since the 1970s, the idea of Emo music with Christian themes has remained indie and hard to find. Mainly because Christian audiences typically don't like sad sounding music, and Emo artists are usually not Christian. However, usually doesn't mean always. Here I have gathered a list of bands from different categories of what people often describe as "Emo" that all share Christian lyricism.

Category 1... Alternative Bands 

To me these are the least emo sounding of the bunch, but they were the most mainstream and therefore reached more people. I've heard quite a few millennials claim these bands were part of their "Christian Emo phase."

Category 2... Pop Punk (aka bands for MCR fans)

My Chemical Romance is often brought up in discussions about Emo Bands, despite them wanting nothing to do with the subgenre/ subculture. They were around during the peak of pop punk, which oddly enough was a hugely popular genre with Christians. Therefore it isn't all too surprising some Christian bands from the time wound up sharing a similar sound.

Category 3... Post-Hardcore / Screamo (aka bands for Pierce the Veil fans)

Screamo at one point was a broad label given to every band that had a sceamer, but I am defining this as Emo music that sometimes has some screaming. If I didn't limit this genre, I'd be here all day with Hardcore and early Christian Metalcore bands like The Chariot, The Devil Wears Prada, and Underoath.

Category 4... Classic Emo Bands

2. Cool Hand Luke (early)

4. Mineral

Mineral was foundational to the emo scene back in the day, and while not a "Christian band" their lyrics often reflect Christian themes. Making them the finale for this list.
