The Nichification of the Modern day. We lost the plot.

As a society we've evolved from desiring the popular trends and mass aesthetics to craving uniqueness. At some point, we realized that it's cool to be different, which I think is great. But it has significantly gone out of hand. We've slowly been introducing the word niche into our daily vocabulary so often that it's basically lost all meaning.Β

The definition of niche is:Β "A position or role that is particularly well-suited to someone or something, often because it is very specific or different from others. It can also refer to a specialized interest or area in which someone or something thrives."Β Something rare, specific andΒ minor. We want to be unique so badly that we all end up falling into the "niche propaganda", without even realizing we're just following a damn trend.Β

The worst part is that not only de we fool ourselves and our ego by believing we're one-of-a-kind doing whatever the internet says is whimsical and strange just to be more interesting, but we also struggle to live if we're not different enough. We fear rejection and mainstream trends so much that we try our hardest to be different, and end up becoming the standard of what we try to avoid.Β

As soon as something is common or trending, it loses any niche it could've had. So no, if you need to add the word to everything you do, it isn't unique. Stop trying so hard to innovate and just do what you like. Accept that following trends or not doing so is okay. Be yourself and don't fall into stupid internet rules that make you lose yourself and be embarrassed for what you like. That's rare.
