I just finished reading Kick-Ass 2 Prelude: Hit-Girl and this comic is pretty good. The writing is a lot less edgy and juvenile compared to Kick-Ass. It dives a lot into Mindy's character about how her childhood with Big Daddy impacted her and how she struggles to just be a normal little girl because of it. A few things from this book were actually adapted in the Kick-Ass 2 movie such as Dave going fishing for trouble by walking in bad neighborhoods with fancy clothes and bags of valuables and the scene where Mindy has to get home before Marcus after he finds out she's gone out as Hit-Girl and Mindy trying to fit in with the popular girls at school. Debbie who is the main bully that Mindy has to deal with and is the comic counterpart of Brooke from the Kick-Ass 2 movie is so over the top and actually genuinely evil. She feels more like she belongs in a Stephen King novel because who the hell brags about being responsible for someone's attempted suicide and hopes that you make someone cut themselves? She is detestable and it makes it so satisfying to see Mindy get revenge against her. This book does do some setup for Kick-Ass 2 and teases upcoming characters along with Chris training in Asia to get revenge on Kick-Ass and remembering who he is since he ended up forgetting however it mostly just feels like filler. It's a good book but it really just kinda feels like build up to Kick-Ass 2. Next up is more of the main plotline and a return to Dave Lizewski's story with Kick-Ass 2.
