(This blog, of course, isn't tied to gacha only, but to combat the idea of "but I can't draw" by using premade sprites, does that make sense?)
Im sure everyone knows about the AI fruit love island thing, yeah? We'll come back to this in a minute
I was a gacha kid, I stopped making skits a long time ago though
But I keep thinking about it
Even these silly skits I made
I put effort into it. Shitty effort but effort nonetheless. I made the characters, I took the screenshots, I edited the video, and I lowkey looked at it and I thought "aaaand post!"
I did something. It was bad but I did it anyway. I didn't see it as "bad," I saw it as my work, and I continued making it
(My 2020 yt channel is still there, all the videos are still there...)
More importantly, I was happy with what I was making, I enjoyed the process, I was delighted to see the final result, I got excited getting comments from the same 3 people who were what I considered my community
And while there were questionable skits, some people were genuinely not only talented, but extremely skilled thanks to their effort, and some of the animations and mini-movies I saw were amazing, story-wise or animation-wise
What I want to say is, these people did something, they tried, they uploaded, they put effort and love into what they were making, this is what it was about (again, this isn't exclusive to gacha obviously, but this is the example I'm using.)
Now back to AI fruit love island
First of all: what the fuck. If we make a scale for originality, this would be deep in the Earth's core.
(And I'm not gunna be talking about how this is evaporating our intire supply of water because that's a different topic, but don't forget yall just how destructive ai generated media is)
Now that that's out of the way, let's tie everything together
AI fruit love island is the absolute embodiment and textbook definition of brain rot. Everything about it is genuinely melting every viewer's brain. We can't even call this a nothing burger, it's just NOTHING. Genuine absolute nothing.
And we have lost what art was even about. Expression.
So, what exactly is this? And why does it exist?
When people say "generative AI is destroying creativity," this is what I imagine. Not completely replaced by generative AI, but still taking up both mental and physical space. Normalising it until it becomes a "where's the problem?"
Why I even bring up gacha life is because this whole fruit love island thing just reminded me of a gacha life skit (and a comment on yt I saw). But the difference is, obviously, that the "show" was never a personal project or a passion project or even a project at all, and not only does it possess no ounce of originality or weight, absolutely ZERO effort was put into making this.
It's slop to get you watching with no real goal or heart or story or soul. And it's one thing producing this shit, but it's another thing doing it at the expense of other people's work.
It's slop for engagement because that's what entertainment is becoming.
The bar didn't become low; the bar doesn't even exist anymore.
(Thankfully Sora AI is shutting down, although I doubt that this will leave an impact.)
Even if it wasn't about gacha, ever since I was a kid I loved making skits and art and stories. I loved making. I loved doing it with my friends and siblings, I loved the engagement, I loved spending my time like this
And I still do. I still love to create stories and still love to draw and want to broaden my abilities in these fields in the future. Because that's what it's about for me; connection and experience.
I want to tell a story, I want to share an experience, I want to feel something and make you feel something, too
AI will never replicate that, but with the direction we're going it's going to seriously affect art in the future. If people are eating this up and genuinely enjoying it, then what chance does a small artist with real soul have?
And so I guess the last thing I want to say is:
People need to remember again that being bad at something was part of the fun
AI is killing effort.
Stop making AI slop the norm.

yes!! not only consuming it, but creating it, is rotting the brains of the people who actually enjoy this shit. "We can't even call this a nothing burger, it's just NOTHING" --- not even nothing, because that would mean we don't gain or lose anything, but both the creation and consumption takes away from us. harms us, and makes us into mindless, thoughtless degenerates!! gacha life is such a good counter-argument, too!
i was a gacha kid once, and i remember the now-emberassing skits i made. however, the value of those skits was not in how well-liked/engaging they were as content, but the effort and the work i put in them; the creativity i used.
i remember, how some creators actually dished out animations and stories that could compete with actual full-length movie productions; and the fact that, in line with them, average kids could also make skits with nothing but their shitty phones, goes to show how the argument of ai being more "accessible" is complete bullshit.
it's genuanly sad how the creation of art, one of the only identifiers of our humanity and spirit, is being corrupted and taken away from us. people have lost the ability of self-expression, because they've lost themselves. how can they express something they do not have?!

I have to add another comment. I genuinely agree ngl. AI sucks soooo bad. I don't find any AI content entertaining at all. AI is ruining the environment, including species to the point that they are now endangered and becoming extinct, the hot temperatures, the water, and hell, even the electricity. It's also scary becuz so many jobs are also now at risk of being replaced with AI, and humans are not gonna make money in the future.
And AI is truly disrespectful to animators, artists, and creators that worked really hard on their art. AI will never replicate its heart and warmth. Only real humans can replicate its true feelings and warmth. AI is lifeless. The colors are really fading. FUCK AI!!!!

I also want to add that creating AI slop is not only a disservice to the creator but a disservice to the audience X00 like you just think so low of your audience that you won't even TRY for them ur just going to give them the hot garbage and tell them to be happy with it X00 Of course there are people who WILL eat it up...and then it's like well these folks are doing a disservice to themselves by not engaging with better content u_u

wow this was so well written! i completely agree with you. like even stuff we considered brain rot back then was actually made by people, and ill take any of that in a heartbeat over ai love fruit island or whatever .. plus LITERALLY any of those ai generated “drama” videos always have the same art style and same plot, like it’s always a woman cheating on her man, it’s so boring even ai aside

Total agree and extremely well written. I hate AI slop as somebody who's been drawing my whole life no exaggeration. They cannot replicate a soul without knowing what its like to have one.

its so depressing seeing so many people loving ai. i miss when people made shitty stopmotions with legos or clay or real hand drawn art, or gatchalife. i was (and perhaps still am) a gatcha kid, although im 19. i loved seeing the crazy storylines kids could come up with, and now i cant stop seeing people talking about the godawful ai fruit show.
another thing that drives me up a wall is seeing people obsessed with c.ai. go write fanfiction!!! write a story!! write a book!!! roleplay with real people!!!! you dont even have to be good at writing, the fun is in creation and creativity.
in short im worried for future generations and their incessant use of ai. you make some great points in this blog post :3

I get what you’re saying tbh. Like it’s not even about gacha specifically, it’s about actually making something and enjoying it, even if it’s not perfect. AI stuff like that just feels empty cause there’s no real effort or meaning behind it. Being ‘bad’ at something was part of the fun, and ppl are kinda losing that.

i was in the gacha community and like you i keep my old channel with all my videos even if its really cringe now cause its a part of who i am and my own work plus to me internet must be archived and loose content or media is really sad

im almost 20 and i still find myself redownloading Gacha Life lol, i dont think i could even see Gacha as cringe. everytime i see a Gacha vid, i just see a kid trying to express themselves in whatever media is accessible to them. What makes Gacha vids so different from a kid drawing their favorite characters or playing pretend? its just wholesome.

I'm a gacha kid through and through I love it with my whole heart and still play gacha to this day. I watched Haylo Hayley talking about that AI fruit Love Island stuff, and honestly, it's pure brainrot. How do people even enjoy that? I dislike it so much.

AI doesn't kill originality, the same way that guns don't kill people. the most of people don't have a gr of creativity. Before, those people didn't produce anything relevant for the web; today, with AI, they produce something relevant, which is the problem. As almost always, the problem is people.
