I've been sort of busy, but I truly haven't done that much lately! I dove headfirst into working, and then got sucked in by video games. I'm actually quite behind work-wise, but today went better than I was expecting so! Hopefully I'll catch up before I freak out.
I've been playing some action roguelikes and some gambling based roguelikes. I didn't grow up playing video games so I'm not very good at the action ones, but I have been having fun! The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is what really sucked me back into playing video games, I really enjoy the vibes, enemy designs, and how fun it is. I've beaten mom's heart 4 times now I think, and am generally progressing pretty slowly due to the fact that I am constantly being hit. I have never been good with hand eye coordination IRL, so it makes sense that it's still pretty weak digitally.
After getting a bit tired of constantly grinding it, I picked up Buckshot Roulette. Something with less action seemed like a good change of pace! I haven't played it quite as much, but that's mostly because I really struggle to remember the amount of blanks vs. live rounds! And to be fair, the game is surprisingly hard on my low-end mid 2000's laptop. I beat the main story, but I've only managed to win 2x in double or nothing mode.
I got Cloverpit after that, which I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy very much. Honestly, I've tried slots and stuff in real life and I always stop after I start losing, since it's just not that enjoyable. Maybe it's the horror aspect I enjoy, but the gameplay loop of Cloverpit is super fun. I did get stuck for a minute as I wasn't sure how to progress at all, but now I have the erased memory card as a rainbow holographic AND I ascended to the 01 room.
I was craving some more action. but I still feel a little burnt from Isaac so I picked up Enter The Gungeon. I really was unsure if I'd enjoy it, as I'm bad with anything hand-eye coordination related and I'm not super into shooting or fantasy generally. But so far it's been pretty fun! I haven't played a ton yet, but I'm very much enjoying the Hunter since she comes with a cute dog. I've only managed to get past the first chamber twice, with at least 4x that in deaths. Still! I hope some more practice will help it click better.
I did also try Balatro but... it just didn't do much for me. I think at some point I'll try it again but I ended up refunding it after about 20 minutes.
I think it'd be pretty cool to make a few video game related web pages, showing off how much I've progressed and expressing my enjoyment. Counterpoint to that, I saw a VERY cool video (LINK) about solo board games, so there's a good chance I'll be going down a board game rabbithole. (Specifically, Final Girl seems PERFECT for me.)
Usually when I write a blog post it's because I'm trying to write something interesting or helpful, but I think just treating these more as a journal and place to share things will make writing these more enjoyable.v
