First rule: No vocals. Vocals shift my focus towards the semantic meaning of the song and I get distracted.
2nd rule: Drums rule.
3rd rule: Once again, DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS.
When I work out I want sound that makes me feel like a piece of machine. Like an orc marching towards Gondor. I need the rhythmic repetitive thrum of the drum.
BIGGER DRUMS = BETTER WORKOUT!
You don't even need a routine. Let the drums guide you.
Also I don't know how but this kind of music shifts me into a focused and slightly trance-like state. It's like anti-ADHD medication. Same with a lot of tribal music with drums - stuff like Danheim and Wardruna. I have neolithic Grug brain

Well you've just blessed my day, and reminded me why I love the internet. I would have never thought of listening to this type of music for power-muscle lock in, but it works. So, a thousand thank yous

Love any music that makes me feel like an ancient warrior who will starve to death if I don't train well enough to hunt for meat

Well, it doesn't have instrumental drums, but it does have cannons of war, the finale of The 1812 Overture, Op. 49
Whoever thought of adding cannons to music was a genius

Instrumental grindcore?
That works too but it's not my cup of tea

I have the same thing but then with techno! I really like these songs too, will add them to my playlist.
I'm glad you like them
Have a techno suggestion as well. This also gets me in that focused state
