inevitably, whether we realize it or not some goals we have live up more in the dream land rather than in reality. often driven there by what feels right to say.
setting up the correct goals is really difficult, and reading reality requires a trained eye. there's multitude of options to work on, and maps in life are ever changing. what matters today is not guaranteed for tomorrow. we need to become professional passers to ourselves, asking for the ball when we don't have it and give it the direction needed.
would it help if we suddenly realize we have a timer going down and realize we have to make the most?
i think it matters depending on whether we think we're losing or winning. if we're two goals down is not time to be passing the ball around, we need some verticality. we need to look out for spaces. if life is winning and we feel we're about to get a draw that looks ugly, why not just commit a foul? if life puts you in a corner, why don't you go yourself to the center and kick it with all your might?
if the game feels rigged, put yourself the captain bracelet and talk with it, question it, ask for justice.
if you're away, connect deeply with your supporters, because once you make it they're gonna be all you care about, and they were with you we you most needed it

An Outsider
I constantly worry that I am setting the wrong goals and wasting precious time in my life. Sometimes I have to remind myself that whatever the outcome it is not so bad. I have already avoided the worst outcomes by avoiding major irresponsibilities (alcoholism, drug abuse, bad relationships, etc.)
i agree it can be consuming to think that way. i find myself there sometimes. maybe we sometimes expect too big of a goal to chase... but like someone very wise told me, holding high standards for everything can only steal joy from us. avoiding such a harmful lifestyle you mention is a propelled start base :)
