old friends

I met a friend today. We haven't seen each other in quite some time. We are at very different stages of our life's at the moment, even though we are the same age. We've know each other since first grade, it's been around thirteen years now. I feel old saying that I've known someone for over a decade. How close we were fluctuated over the years, but we were always friends who could easily talk to each other mostly due to the fact we kind of grew up together. 

We didn't even do anything special, just walking around for a while and later sitting down in a Café. At first I feel like we had to warm up to each other again, but after a while it felt just like it always has. Sitting in a Café and catching up was always something grown ups would do. It made me realize that in a way I am in fact a grown up now too. Looking at my friend there, seeing her now but also seeing her six year old self, her 10 year old and her 14 year old self, made me very nostalgic but also very grateful. Grateful for having long term friendships and people I feel very much like myself around. 

People who's awkward phases I've seen and who have seen mine. 
People I played in the mud with and that I sit in Cafés with now. 

I guess I'm older now, but it's good to remember that that has not always been the case.
