youtube teachings

For no one is a secret that YouTube has become the University of the world. A library filled with infinite sections, topics, authors, hallways, rabbit holes, etc. A place you can go, type a few words and without further notice receive a current of information, such a big current that with no caution can either make you go crazy or keep you up awake until 5am, (and subsequently make you go crazy (it's demonstrated by science that lack of sleep can deteriore mental health. don't believe me? go watch YouTube :p (and be the subject of study OR simply watch about the study lol))

Well, it was in one of my receeses from my looooong YouTube university  course, that I decided to watch PewDiePie again. You may recognize him from one of his most famous roles such as bitch lasagna or congratulations or maybe for his most renowned meme reviews. Well, it was a while since I last watched the PewDiePie, and because of this I didn't have clear what to expect. I just wanted a zero problematic form of entertainment. Does entertainment also have to be educational? Who knows, but there was me.

Apparently mr PewDiePie is going or was going through a midlife crisis, (he's a dad now by the way) and he recorded himself losing his mind. Not really :p

But I was amazed to find out that he's been a lot more techy in his last videos. He's lately made videos about internet privacy, self hosting, projects making and also AI. This video in particular that really stuck out with me and left me wondering was this one where he speaks about a bowl. He talks about how this philosopher diogenes lived a life so minimalist, out of worldly possessions that the only thing he had was a wooden bowl to eat. No house, no things to carry over, nothing else to worry about. Well, turns out or so says the legend that one time he saw a young boy eating with his bare hands: no spoon, no bowl, just nature in its apex. After this he considered his bowl unnecessary, what apparently was a necessity now felt like a luxury. Of course I'm exaggerating, but hearing about his lifestyle I wouldn't be surprised if he did. Mr very respectable PewDiePie then went on to say and draw the parallel on how he in his life had found many bowls. Things that were apparently needed but could be simplified... such as a camera. Why carry an expensive, heavy camera for regular videos,  when phones nowadays have very okay cameras? Realizing a video is shot in 8K is nice for... how long? We lost sense rapidly

What about the restrictions we put on ourselves? Like the widespread idea that you need to go to a gym to get fit? You could very well do it at home, with the right exercises or machines (which are as well bowls)

What about clothing? Do we really need all these trends ruling our wardrobe? Do we really need that that attracts us?

Maybe we can simplify a lot more. Maybe we also have those bowls laying around. Unnecessary stuff that could be simpler. Of course, this is not a call to get rid of everything we have because we can live like Diogenes, not AT ALL. Maybe it's just a ping pong ball that hit in the back of our heads and made us realize that consumism is consuming us.

After that, I went on to watch my daily dose of random memes :)

It's true! We become attached to belongings even if they no longer bring us joy or maximize our happiness. It is sometimes not easy to be minimalist but it is important

wow that's very clever, thank you!
it's not a matter of minimizing what we have but maximize what we have, give it new meaning
