In the previous post where i talked about Clariette, i said she was the first character i created, which is actually wrong—but it doesn’t really matter. These two were created at the same time anyway.
Even though its a little embarrassing to admit, this character—mainly her design—was based on the traits my favorite characters from fantasy manhwas had. I wanted her to look like someone responsible and serene, but exhausted, with an androgynous appearance.
I gave her long hair tied up in a bun, and also a familiar—a hawk that i named Aka. I really liked her design; surprisingly, its the one that changed the least over time, except for her clothing
I had a lot of trouble with her clothes. I wanted something that looked casual but formal at the same time—very contradictory, i know—but i had to find a balance.
In the end, out of all the options, i gave her a simple shirt and a sweater, plus a cape that she would wear occasionally, since she is the vice president of the academy’s student council.
Choosing her colors wasnt a problem either. I always imagined her hair as light blue and her eyes as pink, i really loved the combination and the final result! Her design was the easiest to create because i had a very clear idea of what i wanted. Honestly, i dont remember how i chose her name, but in the end i went with “Liren” it sounds pretty. As for her body, i wanted her to look tall and slim, with tired but kind eyes, and a face that was a bit more… thin, i guess.
Every time i redesigned the characters, the only thing i changed for her was the top piece of clothing, which became a small buttoned cape. Idk what its called, sorry 😿
I already really liked her design, i felt it conveyed exactly what i wanted it to convey, and it was also very easy to remember because of how simple it was
Later, when i decided to redesign all the little witches i already had, Liren’s appearance stayed almost exactly the same
Her bangs changed, as well as the shape of her eyes, and her outfit changed completely—except for the cape, which remained. She also has her own distinctive ahoge among the characters! I thought about giving Liren glasses, but i want to design a special shape just for her, so i haven’t drawn them yet. I also still need to decide whether i’ll redesign her familiar, Aka. She’ll remain a hawk, but i have to figure out what her humanized form will look like, since familiars can take on human forms in the story
It says a lot that she was the easiest character to design, right? Well, she was the easiest to design—but the hardest to write. I had NOTHING for her. She was very difficult for me to write. I knew a bit about what her personality would be like, but nothing beyond that. I tried looking for characters to use as inspiration, but nothing worked. After this final redesign, i was finally able to write her story and develop her character more, and im really happy with the result!!
I still won’t say anything about her story yet, except that she’s a workaholic- and that causes her some serious problems.
