for reference, i'm speaking as a huge fan of the OG franchise and first film.
CINEMA IS DEAD.
this might genuinely be the worst film of the year. just absolute abysmal dogshit. the only good scene (the bar is in hell) was the opening 3 minutes. i saw an early release, got home and ranted abt how bad it was with my brother, and then immediately took an enraged nap. that shit sucked.
i'll probably expand on my thoughts a bit more at a later date. they mischaracterized BOTH of my favourite characters. BOTH OF THEM. or, at least the ones that were present lol. i do love springtrap a lot but he's obvi not in this film.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but it was to be expected it wouldn't be great, seeing how mid the first one was. I'm not a big fan of Scott's writing style in general, the games make up for it in gameplay - a game doesn't need a good story to be entertaining to play. A movie, usually not so much.
I feel like I've sold myself out because I told myself that I will not go see this movie unless I'm invited by someone - and I did get invited by my friends, so now I'm going to pay for this garbage and let the directors know that people want to watch half-baked movies as long as they have a brand name slapped on it.
I'm not exactly happy that the only movies that get interest in my circles are adaptations of IPs targeted to children.
I might start going to studio theatres, since they usually have a better selection of movies, as the one's near me generally don't focus on movies that sell.
I'm not much a fan of Scott's writing style either, but as a fan of the OG franchise (as bad as it may be), I at least enjoyed the first film. This one, however, is just absolute slop. I seriously think all of the fans who are praising it were lobotomized before entering the cinema, it genuinely felt like I was witnessing some MCU "hype moments" clip-farm compilation with the FNaF characters. Especially that god awful ending. Generally, this movie spent its time totally assassinating the identities of beloved characters from the games (specifically: Michael Afton and Charlie/The Puppet). Charlie would've been more forgivable if her reasoning was less ridiculous ("I'm mad so I must kill ALL PARENTS") and was instead something more calculating/sinister (like hunting down the actual witnesses). The Puppet being able to physically possess people as a spectral entity was poorly executed and stupid. There are ways that could've at least been scary, but it just came across as goofy to me. Michael Afton being evil just straight up pissed me off though.
Thankfully, most of the stuff I went to see in theatres was generally high-caliber. Overall, one of the better years for film in recent memory.

I've watched the movie yesterday evening. We went with a couple of friends and as much as we told ourselves not to make much noise in the theatre, we were laughing so hard at the final scene I almost cried. It was so ridiculous! I think the writers misinterpreted the "And together, we are fnaf!" meme and thought we really wanted to see that. Or rather, had no idea how to get the characters out of the situation they wrote, so they went for a deus ex machina.
And I agree, I got mildly upset when they made Micheal Afton evil. They could've at least made him being evil interesting, maybe give some more context for his appearance so he wouldn't end up looking cartoonish.
In the first movie Abby was pretty sweet, though frustratingly naive, but in this one her being so attached to the ghosts felt out of place and left me disappointed. It would make more sense for her to be this upset if she knew the dead children before they were murdered. Anything would be a better take at this point.
Since the opening scene was probably the best part of this movie (the bar is truly in hell), it made everything that came after look even worse in comparison. The scene with one of the ghost hunters being snatched by Mangle was fairly decent too. But that's about it. I'm definitely not going to see the next movies, there's probably going to be more than three of them, since the franchise already has a reputation of being milked all the way. They're definitely going to latch onto that completely random Circus Baby appearance.
