Top Five Lana Del Rey Songs From: Born To Die

This is just my opinion on what I think are the top five from BTD. I will do this twice a week.

One (1) is the best, five is “the worst”...

1 Diet Mountain Dew

Why is it ranked this way?: This is the song that will prepare you for the rest of her music from unreleased to Honeymoon. It opens with, “...You’re no good for me. But baby I want you…” which is exactly what she is talking about this whole time. Someone that is mostly not good for her to be around but she is around them anyway. She also describes yet another setting and tone that is easy to pick up on and feel.

2 Lolita

Why is it ranked this way?: When you start this song, you can 100% feel exactly what she is describing. The sun, the cool. You can visualize it too. To me, this song doesn’t have the same kind of setting as the actual Lolita book of course, but it gives a different spin on something like that.

3 Dark Paradise

Why is it ranked this way?: Death is something that can resonate with anyone and sit in their head for quite a while. This song is exactly about that. If someone that was your whole world died, then you’d think, ‘what do I do now?’. This song is very heavy, but not number 1.

4 Off To The Races

Why is it ranked this way?: When you really stop and think about the lyrics, they hit you hard. “Keep me forever…” “I love you forever, not maybe…”. The way she sort of raps also has an impact on the whole song as well. All of these words that just flow together…

5 Carmen

Why is it ranked this way?: Because the lyrics and sound are of course good, but the lyrics are also kind of weak. They do not make me want to analyze the situation she’s singing about any deeper. For a first-time listener, this song might be stronger to them. The breakdown is kind of boring.
