why does fiction need morals

genuinely asking why people wanna police made-up stories so bad?? i think people take it too seriously tbh but if you have strong opinions on this topic PLEASE comment

Well I think it’s absolutely OK and even necessary for fiction to explore darker themes and ideas, but I draw the line when it becomes obvious that the author either condones, romanticizes, or fetishizes those themes. One of my least favorite books for that reason is A Little Life—all it is is a character suffering for an entire book with no resolution.

all depends on context. dark topics can and should be explored but the line is drawn when its obviously like, fetishizing those topics. yes have characters who are terrible people and who do horrific things but those things should not be portrayed as acceptable in the real world, even if they are in the fictional world youve created, ykwim
