bring ur toys to work day

hi, i'm sylvie, and i'm a proud supporter of bringing ur plushies/toys to work with u.

i used to work for a lot of soulless companies with crazy restrictions about everything for no reason other than maintaining a power imbalance, but now that i spend my days by myself, working as the manager of a quirky little toy store with only 2 locations, things are a lot more relaxed in terms of rules. which is great for my specific flavour of neurodivergence, since i have lots of routines, habits, and accommodations that large corporations don't usually respect.

i always have my big ita backpack full of essentials (and non-essentials) and my water close by, i eat meals and snacks regularly bc i'm in recovery from an eating disorder, and i wear sensory-friendly clothing and accessories that fit my personal style. in fact, my personal style is part of what got me hired here!

i also like to have an inanimate companion with me, whether it's a plush, my blankie, a furby, or some other toy that brings me comfort. i tend to rotate them out every day, and they spend my workday behind the counter with me.

sometimes, customers will point out the toy i've brought, but i've never had a negative response. they usually either say it's cute, get excited if it's a character they like, or ask if it's for sale, which i kindly decline.

i like to think my unique lifestyle and personality brings a little extra something to this store. it's also the first job i've been able to hold down for more than a month in over a year, and i'm still going strong! it means a lot to me that i was finally able to find something i like.

you're never alone when you're surrounded by physical manifestations of your own self-love! that's what i think toys are, at least for me.
