yall quit hating dammit

so the other day i was doomscrolling through reddit (of all the things i coulda doomscrolled) instead of working on my paper thats due in five days and i came across the exchristians subreddit. and i genuinely wanted to throw up. their bio said they were there to support people who had been through trauma because of their religion, or people considering leaving christianity; just there to provide a safe space for them.

i honestly could have connected with that. i've been dealt my share and more of trauma and abuse from being exposed to conservative culture. i almost lost my religion until i found out that christianity and conservatism should never even be in the same sentence. jesus was radical social change. he was killed by (conservative) religious authorities (whose job was to support him) for loving in ways that broke purity codes and made people uncomfortable.

anyway this subreddit was supposed to provide a safe space. it was literally anything but. there were very few instances of people actually sharing stories of trauma that was dealt them by their religion. some people just talked about bad experiences with people who happened to be christian. outside of that it was blind hatred and disrespect. people making shitty bad taste jokes, hating on shit that isn't even true, talking about how christians are cruel and stupid. there was even a cross dildo, no context. shit hurt.

thats basically reddit in general, most of the time "anti-religion" subreddits, i think r/atheism is just as worse,
they always want to appear as smart headed, and any religious person they talk to, theyre deemed as inferior or not smart.
but they often do what they're against, sharing and promoting hate, juxtaposition.

And i 100% agree with your second point, they often put consertavtisim and christianity in the same boat, but if you go to other chirstian countiries, like in the middle east, they're really open-minded and often progressive, I, a religous person hate when people seem to think that religions are orderly and strict. cool post.
