Not the most comprehensive blog I have written, but considering that talking about game difficulty is the kind of topic that makes anyone look dumber the longer they talk about it with myself as no exception, I think I'll close the writing off here and rethink it another time. In the meantime, here is a fun Kirby Air Riders video that sources Sakurai's video and has a much more cohesive and narrow scoped perspective on difficulty. https://youtu.be/nXn181DCJv0
Does it really matter if any game is hard?
Considering games like n++, Tetris TGM series, Path of Exile series, and many arcade style games exist, does it really matter when there is always something to miss out on? There will always be something more in those games that expect players to know how to spend their time anyway.
When there are other games built that you will have more fun with.
Not every game can create the exact experience for everyone. Maybe the developer wants it for themselves as much as their target? Maybe there is one design pin that makes it work but excludes some people? Heck, maybe the creators of the game hates you and made it so you can't play? It could literally be anything. One reason or another, there are some games you can't play without putting in way too much effort to make it happen. Might not even matter if the creators helps you, it might not be possible without making a different game on accident.
However, there are some games that are willing to compromise or even risk the game not working as intended so that more people can play it. Sure, many games that are accessible won't be able to do certain things. However, it's still objectively better for some that need those features to have a game at all.
Now does that make games that aren't accessible worst games?
uhhh... I think I might write about that as well. To keep it short for now, it might be the case that ablest games could be judged as being worse but I won't be committing to those words.
If you are lucky, some more accessible games might even be able to bring that same experience that another game can't bring for you. Maybe it's a whole new game? It could even be a mod or cheat for a game that is built for accessibility.
In the end, the actual games you play or not are arbitrary. You can choose to play by the rules or cannon given, but you shouldn't feel less included if the rules don't work.
Lastly, be aware that modding a game does risk loosing the possibility of the original cannon's experience. If you do ever get stuck in one cannon for one reason, at least know that you can still have fun whatever rule set or cannon you follow. If you do find yourself having issues with a modded game, don't go blaming the creators of the original game as your game is no longer the same game.
