I’ve started my training to become a Peer Support Specialist. It sounds potentially very intense but this is a way that I can help people and make a difference. While I don’t have a history with substance abuse (something that many PSS and clients do,) my nearly lifelong struggles with anxiety/depression and my gender studies major in college are useful for this. As a queer person I’m also in a favorable position to help others like me. I’m worried that such a job could break me as I’m already sensitive and my anxiety is worse than it was even a few years ago. I need to go back to therapy big time if I want to be able to help anyone.
