I just finished reading Dexter Down Under and that was a good comic. It definitely felt a lot more grand and ambitious and it's definitely the most unique entry in the Dexter book universe. The scale was much higher with this one and it is a significant improvement over Marvel's Dexter. The art is still great and Mike Del Mundo killed it with the cover art once again and just like with Marvel's Dexter, the covers for all of the issues are probably my favorite comic covers of all time. Changing the setting to Australia and bringing Dexter to Canberra is a great way to freshen things up. The main antagonist is really good and feels a bit more larger than life compared to the villain of Marvel's Dexter. However this comic does suffer from the same faults of Marvel's Dexter in the way that it really fails to convey mature themes and is not as disturbing as the book series that it shares a universe with. They censor swear words even though this is a Parental Advisory rated comic. That stuff really holds it back and prevents it from being better than what we got. A lot of the main characters we know and love aren't in this book with Deborah only being mentioned a few times but never seen which I think is fine and that works however I feel like this comic should definitely acknowledge Rita's existence. Jeff Lindsay just completely forgot about her. I would've liked to see Rita's reaction upon finding out Dexter has to leave for Australia and see Dexter thinking about her a bit more during his visit there. I also felt like this comic had some pacing issues and that there was a lot that could've been expanded upon which could be fixed by either making the series a few issues longer or by making the series into an actual novel and having it be a proper entry in the book series. This marks the end of the Dexter book universe and overall I really enjoyed this parallel universe version of Dexter and in some ways I prefer the book universe over the TV universe.
