I've had the same haircut for a while and don't change how I style it very often. it's a consistency thing, I struggle heavily with change and transitional periods so routines and little things I can control are very important to me. lately I have come to the realization that change is something that you can control in some cases. it's somewhat silly, but testing these boundaries for my levels of control in change has been really helpful to understanding my brain's specific hangups.
as part of this I somewhat impulsively decided to bleach the tips of my hair in my bathroom. I have very little experience doing anything like this, used a cheap kit from walmart, and probably committed cardinal sins that hairdressers would hate me for. it was very fun and turned out super patchy and amateurish. it's barely noticeable in certain lighting and I completely missed a few of the more prominent spikes. I'm thrilled with how it turned out and will probably stick with it in the future because I think it suits me very well. already pinpointed a few ways to do it better next time!
The Results...

first picture is from yesterday before I trimmed my hair, second picture is from about an hour after bleaching this morning. note the fact that I totally missed half the tips towards the middle of my head. a choppy monument to learning and improvement that has yet to happen!

What a wonderful takeaway from this experience! I used to cut and dye my hair by myself for the majority of high school. I found it really grounding and helped me retain some semblance of control in my life.
The results look really great actually! You were much smarter than me by getting a kit. I used to bleach my hair with a homemade baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste I would smear in my hair to lighten it. It just turned bright orange (I'm a very dark brunette lol) and it definitely wasn't my finest look. Glad you had a good time and you look great!
thanks man! I considered the baking soda and bleach at first but my house has pretty crappy ventilation and it's been crazy hot so I didn't want to fight with opening a window to avoid fumes... probably wouldn't have been much of a difference between that and the bleach powder but I am pretty glad to have not cheapened out. I can definitely see how it'd be grounding though, it's neat to be able to switch things up :-]

yeah don't use real bleach. hair bleach is made of different compounds than actual bleach. Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda as makeshift hair bleach does work kind of similar to using lemon juice but its just not a good idea.

gotcha, completely makes sense. I worked in an agricultural research lab for the better part of high school and the specific ethanol concentrate we used for sterilizing dishes was technically similar to isopropyl alcohol but had these minute concentration differences that meant that it would partially melt any plastics that it touched. gnarly stuff, very glad that I didn't become a chemist and gained enough sense to generally stick with substances suited for specific purposes.
