oh you BET this is goinon my friggin blog man. i just learned about this tiktok trend that made its rounds however long ago where people used an audio that said "you need to nerd out" and showed examples of what excited them. I LOVE THIS!! this is so friggin cool. its always awesome when people feel comfortable to share things theyre passionate about, regardless of if theyre mainstream of niche. i think that is AN ENVIRONMENT WE SHOULD BE FOSTERING EVERYWHERE!! the internet especially because thats where a lot of people go to escape. now.. im not on tiktok but from what ive seen people are kind of really mean a lot of the time. so this trend from my pov is GREAT!
however... ive also seen a few cases of peoples examples of things they "nerd out" about being things like body spray brands.. clothing stores.. energy drinks.. a lot of lululemon, sephora, alani. so.... we shouldnt be gatekeeping things right.. that solves nothing. ON THAT NOTE.. i think some people are missing the point and just thinking its about whatever they like, when a lot of things they like are because its the trend right now or a lot of people around them are doing it without any real passion. i went and watched the video that started the trend (the video the audio is from) and i actually love this guy so much. i really want to urge people to watch it because hes very good at getting his point across. we need individuality most in an age of SUCH OVERWHELMINGLY POPULAR trends (following a trend is not a bad thing. i dont think your entire personality should be based on trends with no intent or passion beyond that). it seems like a lot of people who aren't understanding the idea of genuinely "nerding out" over something don't get it because theyve never had something theyve been that passionate about. which is kind of sad to think about.
theres also the other side of things.. when i was lookin around for other peoples opinions of it, there was a lot of "youre not a nerd if you like mainstream things!" sentiment. one specific video i saw was citing things like minecraft and stranger things. because theyre popular and vanilla you cant be a nerd about them. and like.. so what. who are you to police someone elses interests because you think youre a bigger "nerd" than they are? that gatekeeping is just as harmful as bullying someone over their niche interests.. its interesting because i hear a lot about the pendulum theory which i believe is very relevant to this conversation. idk maybe im influenced by my algorithms in the opinion ive formed over this. i wasn't actually there for the tiktok trend
this is just to say that video is sick and we should support each other and our individual interests but also hold each other accountable :3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gZ-NvUlxfg&t=306s lord nikon.. OUT!
