opinion ★ the homestuck pilot

As someone who loved reading Homestuck when I was growing up, I feel like maybe in middle school I would have been really excited about it having an animated pilot and everything.  Now that I'm older and I believe the comic hasn't aged very well I don't know if I really want to see it be revitalized.I think it's really funny that they dropped this trailer right when all this drama started happening. Was it convenient?

One thing I don't really like is people defending Hussie with their life. I'm not saying Gio is a good person either, but I do think he had some valid criticism. I feel like a lot of people seem to forget that separating art from the artist -  it's kind of hard when of Hussie's viewpoints were in the comic. Granted this is the point of view of a cisgender white person... in the 2000s... so I'm sure the social/political climate was crazy. But it's also crazy now.

SPOILERS IN HIGHLIGHT

I also think it's crazy that there's literally an instance where they imply Gamzee is a weirdo uncle like... wtf. Dude. This isn't funny. Whyyy are we doing this. This isn't the pinnacle of fiction omg.

People are saying that Hussie was such a creatively talented and smart individual for writing this comic? If you think that then you should also realize that he fully knew what he was doing writing all of  the racism and ableism in his comic, puh-lease. He was a grown man. Maybe I'm different, maybe times are different, maybe it's because I'm mixed, but I wasn't doing all of that shit when I was younger.

I do think that Homestuck as a webcomic was revolutionary in its medium, but I also think that there's a point in time where production of this comic should just... end. The original story ended for me in [S] Act 7, like I've said before. It's been years, it feels like they're beating a dead horse.

People complaining about not having enough merch... why are we trying to give this dude money I'm confused. Fanworks really carried the Homestuck fandom personally I feel like I would rather support a fanartist then someone who hands out legal threats like they're candy, or someone who literally has a documented history of being a jerk. The biggest appeal to anything homestuck related for me WAS the fanwork, the OCs - everyone's fantrolls and fankids.

I feel like in this day and age, especially a lot of younger people do not know how to critically consume their favorite medias. The dogpiling and hatred from past Homestuck fans could be easily repeated in now because of the way that Tiktok is and how fast things can go viral nowadays. Homestuck was already a pretty volatile fandom, now there's a generation of people who brought back bullying online? Like people are genuinely more mean and less empathetic nowadays. I get being a hater, I've been a hater, I'm hating right now, but people will just go out of their way to be mean to someone! I see this lack of care online.

Here's my other blog on the topic, but I think now I kinda went more into my feelings about the recent news.

What do you guys think? Crazy rambling right now, I know.

I so agree, people are kinda dramtic to..But I do feel the fear of the homestuck commentary being revitalized in spoken word like...Some things is that book/story should NOT be said out loud tbh....
