A Spider-Man from Antalya: Skater-Spider

Heya! It's me again! And I started writing a story series about my Spider-Sona! Here's the first episode:

Chapter 1 Episode 1: Alright... 

Alright, let's do this one more time. My name is Kayra Gümüş.

I was bitten by a radioactive spider, and for one and a half months, I've been the one and only "real" Spider-Man of my beloved city, Antalya. Alright, alright, “Why do you emphasize the word real? Isn't that weird?” you might ask. Well, because in my universe, there are already many Spider-Man or Spider-Women in a fictional sense. Like Ronald Ray, Nigel Morgan, or Gabriele Stanwood. Soooo, how did I become the real Spider-Man then? Long story short, my curious and adventure-loving ass stuck his nose into a place that I shouldn't have gone in, an abandoned Alchemax Turkey laboratory building. Why was that lab abandoned? I dunno, I guess they couldn't find enough people and got money from the main lab. Anyway, after I went into the lab, an abandoned and somehow fully completed experiment to make their radioactive spider, and with that spider, their Spider-Man found me. Aaaand, the rest is as you already know. I got cool spider powers! Like web shooting, wall climbing, sharp reflexes, etc. I got a bit taller, I was 178 cm (That is around 5.83 inches, if you people use that weird American measurements) before that, and now I am like a giant, lol. But unfortunately, I need to say goodbye to my glasses. They served me at all times. And so, I decided to become Spider-Man, like Ronald Ray. Buuuut, making a costume was hard, especially if you are living in Turkiye. Are you guys how bad the economics are in here!? Anyway, I solved that problem with old clothes from second-hand bazaars (A red long-sleeved t-shirt, leather gloves, black track pants), and for the mask, I used old red fabric and pool goggles (gosh, they were the most expensive and first-hand part of my suit!) Of course, since Antalya's buildings are not tall enough to swing with webs, I solved my transportation problem with rollerblades. And, they are also second-hand, because I am a broke hero. Lucky, for this one and a half months are summer vacation times because I am not ready for balancing my hero duty with school! And so, I saved a bunch of people, saved the city, and then I saved the city again, and again and again. I developed an app for emergency alerts so I could reduce my patrols. And for receiving the emergency alerts, I bought an old second-hand Android phone with all of my remaining money. And still, when I watch the news, I become depressed, because while I was saving people in my city, there’s still crime and bad stuff happening around my country. And this… This hurts me sometimes, not being able to help... And I even considered going back to that lab, finding that spider, and shipping it to other trusted people, so they could also become Spider-Heroes and save people! Of course, I didn’t do that, because I couldn’t be sure about other people using these powers for good.

But despite everything, despite all of this, I still love being Skater-Spider. I mean, who wouldn't? Swinging between traffic, saving people, and seeing their happy faces… So, no matter how many hits, hate, or "feelings of inadequacy" I take, I always find a way to come back. Because the only thing standing between this city and oblivion is me.

And this hero stuff made a great liar, I was a terrible liar before this! Because there are times when an emergency arises that I have to make up very convincing excuses to leave the place. And carrying and hiding my costume wherever I go is also another hustle! I always pray that my family can't find my costume! But one night, everything changed for me. That night, I was preparing to sleep, after my hero duty, of course. My family had already slept. And then my stuff started to float. WHOOSSHH! A hexagonal orange-ish portal opened in the middle of my room, and a Spider-Woman emerged from it. She was purple and had furry things around her wrists and ankles. She also had fangs and four eyes! Seriously! I am not kidding! But now I think about it, it could be her costume design. Anyway, while I was looking at her in disbelief, I spoke. 

“No… WAY! Are you from another universe?”

That Spider-Woman smiled at me and said, “Bingo! And you are also invited to this party.”

After that night, as I said, my whole life has never been the same. Not after I became a hero, nor before I became one...
