12.12.21--Tornadoes and Laundry with Nazis

WHAT IS LIFE RIGHT NOW??

This past week has been nuts. I tell you first, its the plumbing issue that I mentioned in my last blog entry. This is still an issue by the way. We still have our sewage and grey water spilling from that open pipe into our backyard. And on Friday we had the strongest storm system to ever sweep across the United States in over a decade. I was at work when the storms hit here in East-Central Missouri. We had THREE TORNADO WARNINGS IN A ROW. I work in the ER at a hospital and every single time we had to pull the patients into the radiology hallway, and then I had to run down into my department as fast as possible. Weirdly my department in in the lowest level of our hospital which is partially underground. Every tornado warned storm narrowly missed my hometown. The tornadoes hit the towns next to us and the worst one hit just across the Mississippi River in Edwardsville, Illinois. That fucking tornado hit the Amazon warehouse and flattened half of the building, trapping and killing a bunch of people. Apparently Kentucky and Arkansas got hit with the worst tornadoes. It was so much anxiety in one night. We got very lucky. 

After that whole mess of a night, yesterday was another unbelievable event in my life. I mentioned my plumbing is fucked right now. So I have to use the laundromat here in my hometown. I live in the asscrack of Missouri, so that should say everything about this town. If not, it is riddled with Nazi/White Supremacist rednecks and meth addicts. This is NOT an exaggeration, I have this whole family to back me up on this. I had two loads of laundry, and my boyfriend's mom dropped me off there because I do not have a vehicle to drive yet. I wear a mask everywhere, cause obviously theres an ongoing pandemic, AND I work in a hospital. I've seen people die from this disease soooooooooooo....

Now, being in an alt-right town, you would be absolutely correct to assume that most people in this town follow that crazy QAnon conspiracy shit. I walk into the building with my two loads and was immediately met by an old man scoffing in disgust at me for wearing my N95 under his breath. But it was within earshot so he obviously wanted me to hear this. Here's the killer about this man...he had a fucking HITLER MUSTACHE. This is Sullivan, Missouri everybody. Everyday there is something that shocks me more in this stupid town. The KKK capital of the United States. Being a minority feels like a death sentence here. Once I noticed that mustache, I saw his red hat with a camouflaged bandana wrapped around his head underneath. He was old, obviously white, and spoke with this pseudo-German accent for some stupid reason, but his southern drawl cut through a lot. I immediately felt unsafe, and he kept following me closely before walking out of the building with no laundry. I knew he was coming back. Nazis are violent people and I was honestly scared I was gonna get hurt, so I texted my boyfriend's mom that I will be drying my clothes at home. She said "I'm coming up. Safety in numbers.". He came back after she got there, and she saw all of the glory for herself. He was muttering stuff about COVID from the other end of the building but we couldn't hear much of what he was saying. We were ready to have some sort of confrontation. But he never tried anything. I got my stuff and left as soon as the washing machine buzzer went off. I know this makes me sound like a cliché pop-punk kid, but I really want to get the fuck out of this town.
