there has been a recent uptick in trolls and gore spammers that
seem to be targeting the people i've got added. here is a quick guide to
how to detect, report and avoid gore accounts.
if you are triggered by gore and want to avoid gore spammers, AVOID
THE "COOL NEW PEOPLE" PAGE COMPLETELY. THERE ARE A LOT OF BAIT AND
OVERT GORE ACCOUNTS ON THERE AND IT IS PERIODICALLY RAIDED WITH GORE.
DETECTING GORE SPAMMERS
gore
spammers are attention whores. they thrive on reactions and disgust.
but to get attention, they need to draw people in. here is how they do
it:
COVERT ACCOUNTS
covert gore accounts do not use direct references to gore in their name and profile picture.
one type of the covert gore accounts are the faceless newbies.
they do not have a profile picture and their display name is usually a
single word. the rule of thumb with these kind of accounts and the "new
people" tab in general is: the deeper you go into the "new people" tab, the less you should trust profiles with no profile picture. if
a profile seems to have "no signs of life" and looks suspiciously
bland, especially for its age, then it might be a gore account.

example
1. these accounts are not trustworthy due to single word names and no
profile pictures. the accounts were found on pages 4-6 of the "new
people" tab.
these accounts may or
may not have gore. i personally haven't checked, and i do not intend to.
but as a general precaution, faceless accounts should not be trusted unless you share a mutual. even then, be wary.
another type of covert gore accounts are the clickbaiters.
either their profile picture or username asks you directly or
indirectly to interact with their account with a promise of something. a
subtype i stumbled across myself is the "click for [x]" users. again, unless you share a mutual, do not check or add them.
it is not worth the risk. always assume that someone has a hidden
agenda if they so desperately want you to click on their account.

example
2. the individual on the right, at the time of typing this, is a normal
account, but they should still be held as an example of who not to
engage with to be safe.
you can
always search up whatever they're promising you. there is most likely
nothing new that they can show you. you won't miss out.
OVERT ACCOUNTS
so
far, i haven't come across this type yet, but during a gore wave a year
ago, a lot of gore accounts didn't even bother hiding and presented
themselves as what they are. a screenshot taken by a spacehey user
shows and describes what the accounts looked like. to quote, the
profile pictures of said accounts contained "LITERAL ORGANS AND
EXTREMELY NASTY S/H scars", and the names were equally as graphic.

example 3. this screenshot was directly taken from the individual's blog.
goes without saying, do not click on them. block and report.
BLOGS, GROUPS AND LAYOUTS
during that same gore wave a year ago, a lot of the gore spam happened in the named tabs. same rules apply: if an account is faceless, new, oddly active and/ or begging you to engage, avoid whatever they produce.
HOW TO REPORT (without engaging)
to
alert the moderators about a gore account, it seems obvious that you
would need to actually click on the account to reach the report button
and go through with it. luckily, that is not the case. the basic address
syntax for the "report" and "block" buttons is the same across all
accounts; the only difference is the user ID, obviously. here is how you
can report an account without engaging with it.

if the images aren't loading, here are the instructions in text (if you can see the images, disregard this)
- right click on the profile and press "copy link".
- paste the link into your browser (WITHOUT PRESSING "ENTER" OR DOING ANYTHING TO GO TO THE PROFILE) or any text editor. you need to select and copy the "id=" part and the numbers that come after. example: https://spacehey.com/profile?id=1234567 ---> id=1234567. copy that.
- take the preset "report" link and paste the user ID after the "&" symbol, like so: https://spacehey.com/report?type=user& ---> https://spacehey.com/report?type=user&id=1234567. copy and paste that link into your browser's URL field, press enter and proceed to the report screen.
these same steps can be taken to block a user as well. the link presets are:
block: https://spacehey.com/block?
report: https://spacehey.com/report?type=user&
OTHER SAFETY MEASURES
CHECKING ACCOUNTS
unfortunately,
if you're online, you'll have to start engaging with other people's
profiles eventually. that's how you connect and make friends. but if you
have a suspicion that an account you're about to click onto may host
gore, your best bet in proceeding is to turn off your CSS and hope for
the best. if you do so, the jumpscare factor of gore won't be as strong;
the main assets that catch your eye, such as the backgrounds and
overlay images, will not load, leaving behind the raw HTML and
everything that it embeds.

keep
in mind that this method is not foolproof, and HTML images will still
load. the left column will still be the one at the top, so you can scan a
user's interests and then decide for yourself if it's worth it to look
further/ turn CSS back on.
how to turn CSS off:
HOSTING WHITEBOARDS
if
you want to host a whiteboard on whiteboard fox, check the option that
mandates each person to be logged in. i know it seems harsh, but if your
whiteboard link is being shared with gore spammers without your
knowledge or consent, then you should enforce stricter measures until
you find the mole. don't post the link publicly and instead send it to
trusted participants via IMs.
WARNING OTHERS
if you stumble upon gore, please tell people about it. post a blog or a bulletin and paste the profile link and a report link for direct access. if you find a gore layout, make one yourself and title it with the report link to the user that posted said layout.
