Are Revivals Good or Do They Discourage Creativity?

I've been wondering if revivals actually help the progression of genres that I really enjoy (deathcore, metalcore, etc.) or if they are only placeholders for what once was? This is not me trying to hate on new bands adopting old sounds, but sometimes it feels like it's the same influences being copied and pasted without any room for creativity that was present back then. Sure, there are bands that are definitely breaking from the mold (the band 'fromjoy' from Texas comes to mind) but I don't think it's enough to really be its own thing. I guess i feel as though our society have stepped away from having our own unique movements and instead moved towards regurgitating the same old ideas. Or just maybe.... I'm looking way too into this, and I should stop being a pretentious freak LOL
