My speech is about briefly exploring absurdism. What is it, what ideologies it upholds and asking if it could be a beneficial thing to reflect on in day to day life
Do you think that your fate was written and sealed in the stars the second they violently burst into existence around 14 billion years ago and that you were blessed with life or that it was completely random, arbitrary and just a stroke of luck that we are all here today. and in a similar way when all comes full circle everyones demise is just as random. Well and absurdist would probably argue the latter.
so what is absurdism.
its defined as a philosophy based on the belif that all life is meaningless and irrational and that the search for meaning in one devoid of it can lead one coming into conflict with the universe.
to some the absurd arises through the contradictory nature of humans' desire to find meaning where theres no meaning to be found.
although it might seem like a troubling and blatant way of thinking i believe that theres different options when it comes to interpreting this defenition
one must imagine sisyphus rolling the boulder up the hill hes been eternally condemned to. the top of the hill is almost in his grasp, the sun might even shine over cruelly welcoming him to finally rest but once again the boulder will roll down as his last ounce of strength leaves him and he can never make it over. over and over and over again
some think that this is a crucial symbol of absurdity coming from albert camus', the myth of sisyphus. if he knows that the top is so nearly tangible but forever denied. why????
he is an allegory for the human condition. i think that sisyphus represents in all of us the persistance , stubborness and willingness of people to go forth in the face of a somewhat despairingly mundane world. no matter how content we try to be with how things are im sure theres always somewhere we want to be like here or here or a thing we want next. in the end our great strive for meaning -- in striking parallel to sisyphus , who never willlll reach the top, still tries.
Rising, streetcar, four hours in the office or the factory, meal, streetcar, four hours of work, meal, sleep, and Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday according to the same rhythm – this path is easily followed most of the time. But one day the “why” arises and everything begins in that weariness tinged with amazement.”
to me its unfortunate we have to live like this. of course there are so many joys but at the root of it all there has to be something deeper right. i know that at least once in everyones life, even for a mere second one will ask why?? and the why i believe will never get a reallllll answer but for now theres three solutions that we do have.
1 is to commit physical suicide. a decleration that the lack of meaning or its overwhelming struggle and pain really did have meaning all along which some say seperates the absurdist man from the normal man.
2 you could bite your tounge and perhaps surrender to philosophical suicide instead. essentially break from the explicable and rational through belif in a higher power to satisfy the questions.
3 rebel against the futility of the universe by embracing what it has to offer because either way the universe is indifferent to us all.
while trying to find substantial meaning has been described like water slipping through ones fingers it doesnt mean it has to stop you from embracing what life has to offer now. just the fact that you're aware of the vast plane we exist in might just be enough.
its like how we can't fathom nothing. before the big bang there had to have been something yet we just can't know because all we've ever known is somethings
when everything comes full circle im pretty sure there's an afterlife but we could always expect to just return to nothing, whatever that might be.
so in conclusion, pondering over the wide wide universe might not be so beneficial in the long run but the knowledge that you've chosen to give value to your personal existance by living with authenticity is enough
thank you
