The other day I was attending a popular theme park somewhere in France and generally just going about my day and having a good time. As I was walking to an attraction, I passed by someone who was waiting in line for a food cart. I happened to glance over and I saw this person was wearing a hat. Now, I pass by and notice people who wear hats all the time, but this hat had a decal on it that I know I had seen before but couldn't immediately put my finger on it.
As I kept walking, a few seconds later, the cells in my brain finally finished their index search for the identity of that decal and it hit me like a ton of bricks:
It was a decal of one of the mascots from the ABUniverse store. The hat was from that store.
I glanced back and was able to get another glimpse of the hat and confirm my sighting, and I continued on my way just thinking about how wild it was to see someone wearing an ABUniverse hat out in public. Like, wild as in "what are the chances?"
At the same time, it's such a power move to wear a hat like that. Because I'd wager that most people will probably just see a hat like that and just think, "Oh it's a hat with a cartoon animal on it. Well, we're in a theme park, so that's not an abnormal thing to see." And then, at the same time, those who actually do know the context of the hat has to decide to either acknowledge they know the source and context of the hat, or do nothing, lest they reveal their knowledge on the subject.
It's kind of in a similar vein to the whole Bad Dragon meme, where if you stumble across a reference to Bad Dragon, if you don't get it, then you don't get it, but if you do and acknowledge you do, it's like, "Ha ha, you know what dragon dildos are."
Anyway, shout out to that one random guy who decided to wear an ABUniverse hat at a theme park. What a power move.
(Yes, I'm aware with this post I'm acknowledging I know what both ABUniverse and Bad Dragon are. I spend too much time on the Internet.)
