The sibling who never was

It sometimes feels so sad and lonely,Being the child who is the one and only,Whether a sister or a brother,I wish there was at least one other.

When I see my friends and their siblings run,And play together and have fun,I try to tell myself I have no rivalry for my mom’s love and it’s true,But oh how much I have missed out on too.

Dear brother or sister how I long to say,,Let’s go outside together and play,But alas I never can because,You are the sibling who never was.

Your poem touched me deeply it’s so honest and real. I could feel the quiet loneliness and the bittersweet longing in every line. Being an only child can be such a unique experience, and you captured that mix of missing out but also understanding your own special place in your family so beautifully. Your words reminded me how important it is to honor those feelings, even when others might not always understand. Thank you for sharing this piece of your heart it means a lot. Please keep writing; your voice is truly special.

It’s a relationship I think everyone needs in their life. While it’s not exactly the same hope you can find a friendship where your bond is strong enough to call yourselves brother/sister. But with that comes the fact that you have to be there for them in their worst and even through the times you don’t really understand them.

Spot on. I felt the need to write this because I get so fed up with listening to my peers complaining about their brothers and sisters. They just don’t realise how lucky they are having siblings.
