Roots and Wings: Why I Believe in Taking the Best from Both Sides

By Onnaya

We hear it every day: right-wing vs. left-wing, conservative vs. liberal, tradition vs. progress.
People act like we must pick a side and hate the other. But in my heart, I don’t believe life works like that — and maybe you feel the same.

I believe a good life, a strong country, and a kind society come from taking the best pieces of both sides and stitching them together carefully.
Because truth is simple:

“You can’t make connections with foreign countries if your own country is in misery, and you can’t make a bright future without respecting your past and traditions.”

This is what I stand for — and maybe you do too.

What Does ‘Right-Wing’ Mean?

To make it easy, here’s what being right-wing or conservative usually means:

Right-Wing / ConservativeIn My Words
Tradition:Value history, family, faith, and culture.
Personal Responsibility:Believe people should work hard and not depend too much on the government.
Free Market:Support businesses and lower taxes to grow the economy.
Security & Borders:Protect the country and keep it safe.
🇬🇧 Pride:Feel proud of national identity and roots.

A right-wing mind often says:

“Freedom, tradition, and order build a strong country.”

What Does ‘Left-Wing’ Mean?

Left-wing or progressive people have another piece of the puzzle:

Left-Wing / ProgressiveIn My Words
Equality:Care deeply for the poor, sick, or disadvantaged.
Social Support:Support public healthcare, pensions, schools, and help for families.
Fair Rules:Protect workers and the environment.
Change & Progress:Fix old systems that cause injustice.
Open-Mindedness:Welcome cultural diversity and minority rights.

A left-wing mind often says:

“Kindness and fairness keep society humane and just.”

Why I Refuse to Pick Only One

Here’s my truth:
I want the wisdom of the old AND the dreams of the new.
I want a country that is proud and safe AND a country that cares for everyone, no matter how rich or poor.

This is why I stand somewhere in the middle — taking both sides seriously.

How I Combine Both

Right-Wing StrengthLeft-Wing StrengthWhat I Believe
Tradition & culture Help for the poor   Respect roots & care for the weak
Free economy Fair rules for workers   Healthy business & fair treatment
Security & order Global cooperation   Safe borders & peaceful ties
Small government Good public services   Efficient help without waste

My Political Belief Statement

I believe in balance — in holding the past and the future in the same careful hands.
I believe a nation should care for its people, so no one is left behind in misery, while also protecting the freedom and responsibility that make people strong.
I respect traditions, culture, and the roots that shape our identity, but I also welcome wise changes that make life kinder and fairer for everyone.
I believe we should build bridges with other countries, offering help and friendship, while never forgetting to keep our own home strong and safe.
I trust that true progress is not about fighting between right and left, but about taking the best of both and shaping a life where everyone can stand tall, proud, and cared for.

A Final Thought for My Readers

If you feel torn between wings — you’re not alone.
If you feel like you want to protect your country AND open your arms to the world — you’re not wrong.
You’re balanced. You’re careful. You’re hopeful. That is a good place to be.

“True progress is not about choosing a side, but about holding hands across sides and lifting each other higher.”

Let’s Talk

I’d love to hear your thoughts:

  • Where do you stand?

  • What would you keep from each side?

  • How do you balance tradition and progress?

Tell me in the comments — let’s grow this idea together.

This is just such a complicated topic because right wing / left wing mean so many different things to different people. With you being a centrist, you see right wing as focused on the traditional, and left wing as focused on the progressive. This obviously isn't entirely false, but it's also more nuanced than that too- especially considering right and left contain their own subdivisions. If you were to ask a left-wing person about the right, they usually describe the right as "-ist" (racist, sexist, etc) fascists, maybe as white nationalists or neo nazis. When you ask the right about the left, they often describe them as commies, also usually fascists, and sometimes degenerates. You see these two sides and seek to accept and respect the good from both, coming to a happy middle. For myself on the other hand, I see both sides as money-hungry and corrupted, constantly seeking war and playing to the whims of lobbyists. I have my preferences on which side I *usually* hope wins, but at the end of the day I don't trust or respect either side. I reject both

hmmm I understand what you're saying and I do agree with you and I respect the fact that you're rejected them both because it is true they are just hungry wolfs that are after money and power and they make things to complicated for all of us , they should respect and accept each other if they truly care for the people , but they don't actually give a damn about us so we have what we have
