Here, see, this is what in Italian we would call a "fottuto capolavoro" (term used for fantastic songs such as this one). The melody is a classic, the drums are delicious, and I think that in this song, more than others, we get to hear the magnitude of the Tetsussy in all of its might. But a question remains: what is going on with the Aegean Sea? Let's (not) find out.
The original written lyrics are in the first section, and the sung lyrics are written down in the rōmaji section and translated below. Thank you for reading, and let me know what you think!
エーゲ海に捧ぐ 〜 the vault of heaven 〜
(music: Mana / lyrics: Tetsu)
my sigh 静かに 波にさらわれてゆく
my sigh & your sign 枯葉の様に積もる
何度うまれかわっても 9月の雨にうたれてた
瞳も濡れたあなたと 同じこの愛で苦しみたい
「…抱きあった摩擦を 憶えてる?」
Autumn leaves sky and crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of heaven
悲劇と喜劇の光の中で
ただ在りふれた愛と 昨日の夢の続きを
敷きつめた枯葉が 白の下で凍える頃
「何もかも 愛しいよ…」 さよなら
Egē umi ni sasagu 〜 the vault of heaven 〜
My sigh shizuka ni
[My sigh] nami ni sarawarete yuku
My sigh & your sign kareha no you ni tsumoru
Nando umare kawattemo Kugatsu no ame ni utareteta
Hitomi mo nureta anata to Onaji kono ai de kurushimitai
“… Daki atta masatsu wo Oboeteru?”
Autumn leaves
Autumn sky
Autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of
[Autumn leaves
Autumn sky
Autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of heaven]
[Nando umare kawattemo Kugatsu no ame ni utareteta
Hitomi mo nureta anata to Onaji kono ai de kurushimitai
“… Daki atta masatsu wo….”]
[Autumn leaves
Autumn sky
Autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of
Autumn leaves
Autumn sky
Autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of heaven]
Higeki to kigeki no hikari no naka de
Tada arifureta ai to
[Higeki to kigeki no hikari no naka de]
Kinō no yume no tsuzuki wo
Shikitsumeta kareha ga Shiro no shita de kogoeru koro
“Nani mo kamo itoshii yo…” Sayonara
Dedicated to the Aegean Sea 〜 the vault of heaven 〜
My sigh is silently washed ashore by the waves
My sigh & your sign pile up like fallen leaves
It doesn’t matter how many times I am reborn
I would still want to suffer in this same love
Where you were hit by September rain, wet up to your eyes
“Do you remember the friction as we embraced each other?”
Autumn leaves, autumn sky, autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of…
Autumn leaves, autumn sky, autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of heaven
It doesn’t matter how many times I am reborn
I still want to suffer in this same love
Where you were hit by September rain, wet up to your eyes
“The friction as we embraced each other…”
Autumn leaves, autumn sky, autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of…
Autumn leaves, autumn sky, autumn crimson road
I’m walking alone on the vault of heaven
In the light of tragedy and comedy
It is just an ordinary love
In the light of tragedy and comedy
The continuation of the dreams from yesterday…
When the fallen leaves scattered on the ground freeze underneath a white blanket
“Everything about you is dear to me…”
Goodbye
Notes: I spent a solid half an hour on the part that says "It doesn't matter how many times I am reborn"; other than being my fave part in these lyrics, the wording is quite diabolic in my opinion. I believe the main clause is "Nando umare kawatte mo [...] anata to onaji kono ai de kurushimitai" (It doesn’t matter how many times I am reborn, I would still want to suffer in this same love/suffer in this love just like you). The part in between, I think, is one single relative clause, and it describes maybe a scene from a happier time in this relationship. I have seen others split that section (like "I am/was hit by the rain and you were wet..."), but the past tenses and the "anata" (you) right after make me believe the subject of the whole clause is "you". There are of course various possible interpretations so let me know if you have other ideas!
Thank you for reading, and thanks Maiden Death for the code and Bosch Integral Photo for the bg!
