My first impressions of the Nintendo Switch 2

After being unable to get one on launch and having Walmart cancel my order on me, I finally got my grubby little mittens on a Switch 2. I also got the Mario Kart World bundle since I wanted to play that game anyway and I figured I'd save the money. Right now my first impressions of the console are pretty positive. The screen is better in handheld mode, the joy cons are better and easier to use sideways and they feel very secure which is something I was concerned about as magnets and that little port did not look or sound secure and durable at all and I thought Little Timmy would fuck that shit up, the kickstand is much more sturdy although I never had issues with the Switch 1's kickstand but I know lots of people did, the game card slot is easier to open, the eShop runs so much better and it's nice that I don't have to log in and enter my password every time, GameChat is nothing new as this has been standard for every console since the original Xbox but it's nice to see Nintendo catch up with the times and have it be native in the console as opposed to being an app on your phone and it ran pretty well for me and I didn't have many issues with it, I like that we now have GameCube games and I can't wait to see the potential for possible Wii games, and Mario Kart World is a pretty good game so far and I might even like it better than 8 but that could be recency bias and I'll make that judgment for when I finish Grand Prix although I will say that the open world does feel quite empty and it feels more like they just put it in there to have a cool gimmick. As for what I don't like about the console, I think this launch is incredibly lackluster as there is only one game. Mario Kart World is the only new game out for the console right now. There's also Welcome Tour but that's a 10$ tech demo which should also just come built into the console and not be an additional fee. The only new real game we have right now is Mario Kart World. Everything else is just a port or enhanced version of a Switch 1 game. There's also only 3 GameCube games out right now and the only one that really interests me is Wind Waker. I am also not a fan of how the accessories are so expensive. I'm not really an accessory person but I do like to take my Switch with me when I go out sometimes usually when I'm traveling or stuck in a waiting room somewhere and need to kill time however the Switch 2 carrying case is 40$. Granted it comes with a screen protector but I don't really want it and that's still a lot of money for a carrying case. Thankfully there are cheaper and much better third party options you can get though. Those game key cards are also awful. I primarily bought physical for Switch 1 because you just put the cartridge in and play it. Thankfully not every physical Switch 2 game is a key card though. YouTube also doesn't work on Switch 2 which really sucks. Overall this is a good console but there's nothing to do with it right now and the accessories are too expensive.

It's a bit hard to digest your thoughts with them all being put together in one mega paragraph and having massive run-on sentences. I think from what I gathered you seem to see the issues with the system. I'm am curious if you bought it for a specific reason besides having disposable income though. Unless you have specific reasons or are a host for hang outs with friends, it's not that big of an upgrade.

Also, if you want to make the value of the system even less clear, just play Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers past the steep learning curve.

I bought it since I figured I'd have to upgrade eventually since Nintendo is bound to stop supporting the Switch 1 and quit making games for it at some point. It's also a bit more powerful and I can play Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom at a better and more consistent FPS since those games in particular did not run too great on the original Switch and the FPS would drop quite a bit. There are also other games where that was an issue but it was really an issue for me in those games. It's got GameCube games which I admittedly already have on PC with Dolphin however it's nice to have them be portable and it's easier to play those games online on Switch as opposed to Dolphin Netplay. The entire Luigi's Mansion trilogy finally being playable on one platform is also very nice.

Fair enough. Haven't heard great things about GameCube netplay mainly in regards to Soul Caliber 2 as the netplay was clearly not built with a 1v1 fighting game in mind. However, I think I might remember some video thumbnails also talking about it in general so Dolphin netplay might still be better. I wouldn't mind hearing if that's wrong though as I won't ever have Switch Online in almost all circumstances.
