First Reads - Bibliolepsy

Made some changes to First Reads similar to Watched. I got rid of the Buy it or Borrow it since I can just put it in the recommendation section, and I borrow most books anyway.

Review

Well, I feel dumb. Not the books fault, mine. It appears I have run into the same issue I had with The Contradictions. I just do not comprehend at a high level these kinds of books, and I feel like I could. I just need to reread the damn book and read books on a similar level. But I feel like I can't, because there is so much in the world. So many shows to and movies to watch, so many literature to read, so many games to play. There is just so much, my music artist backlog is well into the ballpark of 50, and my games wishlist is over 300! Its a me problem, I think I understand. Eventually, I believe in myself to read enough of these titles to get the message, the inner intricacies of these books, and fully experience them.

For now though, I can praise Bibliolepsy how I view it now, sorry for the rant. Like the Contradictions, the stakes never really get high for the main character, rather the main character reacts the to ever evolving stakes of the world and people around them. Exponentially moreso for this books setting, during the near-end and end of Marcos dictatorship, and the EDSA revolution. It was eye opening to see the history and culture of the Phillipines through this book, as I often get media around bigger countries and areas like Mexico, Europe, China, Japan, etc. It was a fascinating read. The way the book was structured by chapter was also interesting. No table of contents, and every chapter felt bite sized, as if I was not reading chapters but multi-page excerpts. A short book (200-ish) pages has always kind suited my style of reading. It was also quite engaging, if a bit confounding. The way things are described can best summed up in my opinion as, "flowery". It is unfair statement to make I believe, since I think the incomprehension comes from my end, but it warrants some merit. I guess how the author describes scenes happening leave less enraptured, and more pondering what exactly was happening.

Overall Recommendation: Sure Why Not

Still, it was a enticing read, and good way to start the summer of reading. Still often left wanting for more, or satisfied with how much the story is progressing. A nice read.
