While I was waiting.
There were lots of interesting stuff that was talked about. Various features, what Welcome Tour is was argued about, game upgrade details, lack of GameShare for Luigi's Mansion 3's ScareScraper, all were quite interesting and even heart breaking. There also some stuff like that one ad campaign and the dedicated ram which I wrote about.
There were also feelings I had about the various different features. It's so weird that Nintendo were working so hard to sell on the various hardware features like 4K and high refresh rate when I doubt most people who buy Nintendo's stuff would actually care about. I didn't see why they went with a more powerful switch, especially after going a whole generation with the current hardware.
The price was also something highly complained about. The issue I see with just that is it really doesn't give the whole picture. The problem I see is that Nintendo made design decisions that made it cost the amount it does. Stuff like the larger tablet and screen along with high refresh rate seem to be the cost rather than greed as Nintendo is already selling at a loss even before the tariffs. When you add up everything, the price of the hardware we do get is actually right. In my opinion, we should not be just lowering prices but instead making cheaper decisions. Even right now at launch, I think they put too much cost into stuff that matter despite how nice they make the system look and feel.

I want to hear more thoughts from people about my whims so I might be doing interaction reminders for a bit. Might stop doing them once I get enough company.
Why did I get it in the first place?
There are the usual counter points, but I had some pretty convincing reasons not to get it in particular. Being a PC player with old favorites is one thing but it came with what should have been the nail the coffin for the idea of buying a Switch 2. Consider Ring Racers aka my favorite Kart Racer, not only is it the best kart racer that absolutely masters the gameplay with it's technically and endless depth but it also contains more tracks than Mario Kart 8 DX with the booster pass included. This isn't even considering battle maps which Ring Racers beats by whole orders greater. Oh and mods, even a couple additional mods of good quality absolutely crushes Worlds course count.
There shouldn't have been any good reason I got the Switch 2. But Nintendo still finds them.
First of all, Mario Kart World does not directly compete with any kart racer because it's so different and not just because of the open world. You see, the game taking place on mostly highways and country roads rather than tracks completely changes the gameplay and design. Normally, racers drift around corners taking tight lines to gain boosts, but you can't do that when going across straight roads. This is where the new trick system comes in. Instead of drifting, spark boosts can be gained from riding rails and walls using ramps or the charge jump to access them. Although racers become quite vulnerable while on rails, they gain sparks while riding them and are in the position to jump off the rails in various directions to gain an edge. If the racer is good enough, they can also ride walls to gain even more positions. These new options have gained my interest both just to play the game and as a game designer.
Second, no one I know wants to play the game I like the most. I have tried for a couple years to get people I know to play SRB2Kart or Ring Racers, but they would rather just play the game they know instead which is Mario Kart. I hate to admit it, but Nintendo has taken my social experiences and hid them behind their system. I hope for that to change someday with my work, because they shouldn't have gotten away with that.
Third, the system may not be the most novel thing but it has some cool stuff. The mouse mode in particular is actually quite influential. Not only can designers now expect every Switch 2 owner to have two mice, but it also has more functionality than normal mice. Games like DragXDrive demonstrate using both mice, but there is also a demo in Welcome Tour where the mouse can be rotated to fit a shape in a hole. As far I know, my mouse can't do that. GameShare is also possible using the Switch 2 and it's absolutely fun and impressive. I got to try it out and seeing two different rendered views with one of which being streamed locally was crazy. The prospect of being able to eventually play Luigi's Mansion 3's ScareScrapper is something I couldn't ignore as a Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon enjoyer.
When I was pre-ordering, I wouldn't have minded my order not being taken. In fact, part of me was hoping for my order to fail being processed simply because that meant they failed to serve me. But it ended up working after enough effort and it eventually passed every cancellation wave first try.
Unfortunately, I don't hold those same feelings as time went on until today. As you will see, they still impressed me.
Unboxing.
Not much I need to mention here. It's as magical as any unboxing is. What I want to talk about is a pretty key design of the box itself. You see, I can't use the box to bring my switch 2 portable like it's a case. I don't know how many people actually care about that, but I sure did as someone who didn't want to buy the case. The problem they designed the box around was to make the box's max length of a side only as long as the tablet without the joy-cons attached. Add on the cumbersome cardboard and it becomes a pretty bad case which is probably isn't easy to design around. I assume this is intentional so customers are encouraged to buy the case. If anyone can talk about this more, that would be great. Any company who does this with their products are pricks.
Quick Amendment: The box could also be built to make shipping easier. Refer to the comment by KrazyKoen that brought this insight. Still think it could be possible the box is designed against being a case, but it's a pretty weak case at this point.
The Hardware.
At first, I didn't think the screen being 1080p was gonna matter that much even with it the screen being bigger. Glad they proved me wrong. The screen with the HDR on as well looks beautiful. The menu demo's this with the colorful accent when over a UI element and is one of the ways to show how nice the screen is. I still believe it could be cheaper to save the cost, but I defiantly got my money's worth on that.
One big downer that I couldn't ignore was the EULA. There was a forced arbitration clause that I needed to agree to that could only be opted out of by sending a written letter. (Gee, I wonder why? /s) I knew how to write a letter because I had school and search engines when needed, but it's still quite annoying. Any company who does this with their products are cunts.
Mouse mode works as impressively as expected. Nice that mouse sensitivity can be set to a certain extent. Shame I won't be trying out the Welcome Tour demos for the mouse rotation feature, but if a game I plan to get uses it I might cover it at some point.
At this point, it's just little things like how nice everything feels, the better kickstand, the dual USB-C cable and brick for charging. The system is just nice and I'm excited to play games on it.
Mario Kart World.
I already talked about the major gameplay above in the first purchasing point, but there are some other cool stuff too.
The free roam is really fun and comes with neat unlocks for in-game brand stickers. That also reminds me that this blog post was not sponsored by Galaxy and their Engine Oil Cooling solutions. We look to the stars for the best quality. Anyway, a big reason free roam works so well is because of how off-road was changed. It's still slow enough that it's worth boosting over when possible, but you can still drift and maintain spark over among other actions you can't do in other games. They probably did some other stuff too, but whatever they did makes the off-road quite fun to drive over regardless of the speed loss. It's kinda makes this game a bit of rally by technicality.
Now on to the big moment for me. For some reason, the soundtrack for the game is on a whole other level. There is the specific music for the courses that is fantastic, but when on the road in a race or free roam, remixes from other games entirely also play. Many of them are best features from past games including the big one from my childhood Super Mario Galaxy. When I heard the remix of Good Egg Galaxy, I felt like I could buy this game twice for a second before regaining myself. There are also some amazing ones like Yoshi Star Galaxy in swing rhythm that are absolute bops that you need to listen to regardless of if you own the game or not. Here is the sounds of freedom playlist where you can listen to most tracks uploaded so far.
I will save whether I think you should buy till the end.
Other games.
Some games don't have great performance on the original Switches because they might not have been optimized for the system or are the way they are to justify buying a Switch 2. They now run pretty fine so no more lag when you have a maxed out ship in M&L: Brothership.
There is also the GameShare I tried that is still impresses me.
I got to try and see if games with upgrade packs can be run without buying and luckily they still work. I can still play whatever games I want without being forced to pay for support. Neat.
Should you buy this thing?
If you are a normal person who has hardware like a Switch or whatever that just plays games sometime, no. MK8DX or anything on PC is enough already to hold over most people for fun game nights. Most people just want to have fun and I don't think you should be making unnecessary purchases when the current hardware does the trick already.
There are defiantly people that could buy this and find it's value match the cost though. If you or your play groups don't have hardware to fill in currently, this is a great start. Just remember that this works best if you play in handheld mode most of the time or play on a TV that is either [1440p 120hz HDR] or [4K 60hrz HDR]. If you don't have a TV to meet the specs, then maybe getting an original Switch is better if you don't care for handheld.
If you are a nerd like me who wants to try out the unique experiences with a refined eye, then you might be up for it. It might not be worth it if you want more out of it or don't want to support Nintendo making systems like this that don't do anything super new hardware wise though. The games definitely remain the best there is, but that only goes so far for many, especially if you have something that's better.
If you want to share only the best experiences and be the one who brings the best, yes. Sure, there are all these problems, but I support those who share these great experiences and this system is built around that following the original Switch. Use that to share this with those who don't want to pay the price. Heck, you could even save some unnecessary purchases by inviting people or bringing the system so everyone can play. Plus, the original hardware is fully compatible including the original joy-cons, so if you have any spare or your friends have their own they can use those. I doubt I will be able to do that due to lack of peers, but if anyone read can then do so. Bring these great games and experiences to more people despite everything.
What's next.
Probably just playing more of the game. I might write down more interesting experiences into my bulletins and blog. Refer to the interaction reminder. I know I won't be able to share the game as often as I want, but these writings are the next best thing and I want to make my money count for once.

The Funny Walmart Switch 2 mess up.
Some of you might be on social media and already have noticed, but it seem Walmart has mistakenly shipped Switch 2s with Coca-Cola and Pringles. I also bought from Walmart and got myself some as well. I though it was weird and checked online to see if it's an ad or something. Turns out, it might just me a mishap or some kind of gorilla marketing.
I am more on the gorilla marketing side so I will give you some important info.
There are better colas and chips than Coke and Pringles. Go out and try the various drinks and chips of the world rather than support the word of big soda and per-digested slurry "chips." Some of my favorite soda are Sprechers which are spicy but really good. In terms of chips, I don't have much experience with really good chips, but I assume you can go to a nice restaurant and find some nice salted chips. I wonder if you can ask for them with different kinds of spices on them to be able to add extra flavor?
Quick little addon for my NS2 experience.
With my original Switch, after enough times using the cart slot the system starts to have trouble reading the game without inserting it far enough in. With the Switch 2, it seems they redesigned it to have some kind of concave structure on the lit for where the cart it. I assume this addresses the issue but we will have to wait and see.
It's not something that people are gonna be talking about, but it's defiantly an important detail as it represents that Nintendo doesn't pull back the stops in terms of quality. They really want to make it feel like a $450 but at the same time I can't say if this design actually makes the system work better. Although, this does make me wonder if Nintendo has a stance against physical media if they gave this much effort into a cart slot. Like, it is weird that there is only options for 1 gigabyte or 64 gigabyte carts, but they pull all the stops for the slot for some reason. I believe my friend who has become my Nintendo informant mentioned how express memory being so new is why they can't get carts in more sizes. It might just be true, but remember to accept reality. It's still an issue that would be solved as soon as possible if Nintendo cares to support physical media.

I think part of the reason the box is like that is to make shipping more efficient. Nintendo seemed to do a really good job supplying enough consoles where I live, plus I heard they were shipping as many as possible to the US due to the tariff situation. I can't imagine it was purely a ploy to make people buy carrying cases since most people I know buy them 3rd party anyway.
Anyways, I'll have to try Ring Racers and SBR2Kart if they're as good as you say they are (:
Actually, that makes a lot of sense. I still think it's possible that the box could be designed to not be a case, but I don't think my perspective should be the only one people read about.
Might make a quick amendment to add a link to this comment.

With the switch 2 I feel nintendo should have made the tech demo Mario paint 2 instead of the welcome tour.
you would have had all the features of the mouse and having extra mini games and little features to try out all the other little dingalings inside the joycon.
That will probably be Mario Maker 3 costing $100 and somehow being even worse at creating levels. /j
I hope I don't jinx myself with what I just said.

this is super cool! i honestly dont know much about the switch 2, and reading this gave me some more insight on the mechanics of it. i have an OLED, so i dont think i will get my own switch 2. my brother is a super big nintendo nerd and hes like, obsessed with the switch 2 right now. its awesome to see other people talk about it besides just hearing it from him!
Glad you liked reading about it. Even if you or your bother doesn't get the system yet, I hope yall get to try the games at some point with someone else's system or not. The experiences are at least worth playing despite reality saying otherwise.
