HOW TO START A CD COLLECTION / TIPS ON HOW TO NOT OVERSPEND

Many people interested in 2000s internet culture are also interested in CD/VINYL collecting

These are my tips and tricks on how to obtain a decently sized collection whilst being budget friendly!

1. CHECK UNEXPECTED PLACES!!

You'd be surprised by how many stories I've heard about people going into a relatives basement and hitting a goldmine, it is worth your time checking!!

2. DON'T OVERSPEND AT RECORD STORES

If you're planning to go to a record store, ALWAYS browse their used CDs. I have gotten SO many good cds just by merely browsing the used bins. Depending on your record store they may even leave out free take bins which you should ALWAYS browse.

3. BUY USED ON AMAZON!!!!!!!!!!!

There is almost always an option to buy cds used on amazon even though i heavily discourage amazon all together. If you're looking for a place to buy SPECIFIC cds id suggest discogs. It's a very well designed mobile app where you can log your wishlist as well as your collection progress. You can also MAKE PURCHASES as well (typically used) (which little ps; ALWAYS BUY USED.)

4. THRIFT.

If you want a really cheap and fast way to get CDs, thrifting is your best friend. I have gotten SO MANY GRAILS just by skimming the cd/dvd isles in a thrift (THE IMAGE BELOW DEPICTS A FEW EXAMPLES OF JUST HOW MANY GOOD CDS I'VE GOTTEN FROM MY LOCAL THRIFT STORE

honestly i do kind of get this because time is such a weird concept. they dont even have computer labs in schools anymore and nobody uses cds bc of streaming services ect. theres actually a really big community of physical media collectors which i find really interesting but yeah they have started to become more of a collectible in recent years

legit because why am I paying... for ads???? no thank you. when Spotify premium was just 9 dollars it was okay ig but they kept raising it and by the time it got to 12 I cancelled and got a refund. I don't even want to support them because why is free Spotify the worst music app in existence?
