Group Made Prototype: POSTMORTEM

29/05/2025 Group Made Prototype (Dragon Champions) Postmortem

Hiya! I think its safe to say that my team and I have done enough to make a postmortem about our process. I have definitely learnt a lot across the timeline of this unit

what chapters in the textbook inspired your design process?

The main chapters I referred and was inspired by when working on this prototype were chapters 4, 9, 11, 13 and 14. Chapter 4 was about "Working with dramatic elements" i had a heavy focus on incorporating "challenge". I followed this graph to base my decision making for the balancing for the dragons:

Chapter 9 was primarily about aspects of playtesting to be aware of. Furthermore, it touched on how to apply an iterative design process. I found this section especially essential as looking into playtesting results were a main strategy towards developing the game further. This is because the feedback we received from players who were especially naive inspired better mechanics and implementations. Chapter 11 was about implementing fun and accessibility to games, chapter 13 stages and methods of development and finally chapter 14 was about communicating my design. all of these chapters worked in tandem with me to effectively communicate my ideas with my team.

what's one thing you'd change about how you developed the prototype? focus on the process on how you made it. try to incorporate reading or class content.

One thing I would change about how I developed my prototype would be that I should have allowed more time for playtesting. I found the feedback i and the team had received extremely helpful and I wish I was able to gather more to refine this game to the fullest.

One thing i would change about the design of my prototype is the readability of the UI in the game. A continuous problem that the playtesters ran into was that they kept misunderstanding the point of the distance counter and the cooldown flame. If I had the time i would try to make those elements clearer. Anyways, this concludes my IGB120 blogging experience. Until next time, Kier signing out!
