VOISILMÄPULLA
"butter-eye bun"
comprised of the words "voi" meaning "butter," "silmä" meaning "eye," and "pulla" roughly meaning "a pastry/bun"
the word "voisilmäpulla," or "butter-eye bun (butter bun)," is a type of pulla named for it's distinct "eye of butter," from the filling of butter and sugar baked onto the top of the bun
this kind of bun is made with cardamom, yeast, butter, sugar, milk, eggs, and flour - typical ingredients for the average finnish pulla. what makes it distinct though is it's eye of butter, from which it recieved it's name. these buns are typically enjoyed with coffee, and served in many bakeries and cafés across finland
voisilmäpulla may differ slightly in additional toppings depending on the recipe, sometimes including ground almonds or pearl sugar, but no matter the decor, they will always proudly have their butter-eye
