I've always been told growing up that "you're next teacher won't accept this" or whatever they tried to say. Most times they were wrong. 5th grade did let me turn in work a little late and 6th grade let me take a blanket to school. It was a small kind of defiance to find those small cracks and prove myself. All of that feels irrelevant now.
As the school year is coming to a close (only a week left. woohoo!!), I realize that I understand nothing about high school. Being a freshman sounds terrifying. I suck at memorizing maps, the school is huge, and I tell myself I'm extroverted until I'm surrounded by kids I don't know. It's a lose/lose situation.
Basically, I'm asking for the best tips on surviving high school. Hopefully I can make a survival guide out of everything and post another blog later. School supplies, drama tips, I'll take anything at this point.
Sincerely, a desperate 8th grader.

As someone who graduated high school last year in June 2024, my advice to you would be to try to get and maintain good grades (which is going to especially be important once you reach your junior and senior years and are applying to college), find some good friends and hang out with them often, focus on increasing your independence (if you're anything like me when I was around your age and had to deal with stupid helicopter relatives not letting me leave the house without adult supervision even in a relatively quiet neighborhood like mine, just give them the proverbial middle finger and find a way to sneak out and around to gain your independence), and most importantly, try to make the most out of these next 4 years of your life and have as much fun as you possibly can whilst staying true to yourself and continuing to be who you are.
