Another week of unemployment, another great song! Gogo no sasayaki started off as my least favourite on memoire, but now I find it so soothing and I think it gives the album a lovely touch which ties it all together. The thing I like the most is that this bossa nova moment can be seen (at least, from my humble point of view) as completely random, especially considering we're mostly talking about vampires, death and France, and yet there it is!
As always, any comment is welcome, and thank you for reading :)
午後のささやき
(lyrics: Tetsu / music: Mana)
Gogo no sasayaki
Ah, kemuri no mukougawa Temaneki shiteiru musuu no kage
Jama shinaide okure risei Uzukidashiteiru honnō
"Awase kagami no zutto oku kara tsuzuku
Kono gishiki wo Saa hajimeyou"
Butai wa kumo no ue Gisei wa futari no kako
Jumon wa [kono] sasayaki Negai wa towa no ai
Taiyō ga hohoendeiru Futari wo awaremu you ni
Sora no hate kara hohoendeiru Furati no ai mo sora no hate made
Afternoon whispers
Ah, behind the smoke, countless shadows beckon me
Oh, reason, don't bother me and my throbbing instincts
"Let's initiate this ritual
Which repeats itself in the mirrors to infinity."
The cloud tops are the altar Our past is the sacrifice
These whispers are the magic spell Eternal love is the wish
The sun is smiling at us as if it pities us
We are smiling from the end of the sky, together with our love
I think this is one of the sexier songs in their discography, but maybe y'all are not ready for this conversation. The reason is that I see this imaginary ritual and the whole scene as very seductive (not in the same flavor as Illuminati of course), but if we insert the song into the bigger "dead lady vampire" lore, it might also be a more literal attempt to evoke her spirit and whatnot. I mean, the sun is smiling as if it's telling them, "Ha, do you want eternal love? I think the fuck not" so as usual, the line between shmex (malice) and outright tragedy (mizer(y)) is blurred.
The only note I have translation-wise is the part about mirrors: the lyrics create an image of one or more mirrors where these visions repeat again and again; do you know the effect you get with two parallel mirrors, repeating the same image to infinity? That's what "awase kagami" means, and I think it's called "infinity mirror" or something, but I'm not sure if I managed to make it clear. Also, "butai" is more of a stage, but I chose "altar" to go with the whole ritual situation.
Thank you for reading and thank you Maiden Death for the code :) Background by noco's artwork
