Kioku to sora 記憶と空 - Malice Mizer (Translation)

Boy, do I love this song. In the end, I decided to come back in style with memoire (BUT voyage, uruwashiki kamen no shotaijō and ma cherie are staring at me from my shelf as I type, kicking my feet). I also tried a dark background, hoping you can see the gothic stained glass window in the back, and I pointed out the lyrics switcharoos in brackets only in the romaji section; this is because it's mostly repetitions that are unwritten, so the meaning doesn't really change. I also tried to maintain the original spacing of lyrics in the printed booklet, because I feel like everything is there for a reason. Anyway, thank you forever Mother Tetsu (please come back) and enjoy!

(music: Mana / lyrics: Tetsu)

「erase all with only light, leave me without delight.

Kioku to sora

"Shisen no kaze wa boku no hitai ni ana wo [ana wo] aketa mama
[Shisen no kaze wa] kono sekai ni zutto [zutto] fukiareru"

"erase all with only light, hito wa mumei no mama
leave me without delight, mina kieteiku..." *

"Wameki susurinaki aegu koe sorera wo saegiru you ni
       oshitsutsumu hirogaru silence…[silence, mad silence]"

["erase all with only light, hito wa mumei no mama
leave me without delight, mina kieteiku..."]

"Hajimete shi wo ishiki shita ano osanai hi wo omoinagara

"Sekai kara subete no iro ga naku naru hi wo…"

"Kimi to no saikai no toki koroshitai to omou darouka?
       Idakitai to omou darouka?"

["erase all with only light, hito wa mumei no mama
leave me without delight, mina kieteiku..."

"Hajimete shi wo ishiki shita ano osanai hi wo omoinagara

"Sekai kara subete no iro ga naku naru hi wo…"]

"Dakishimeta kioku to sora kotoba yori kimochi yori me no mae no anata dake
Natsukashii kioku to ima me ga kuramu ashi ga sukumu hone ga
       kishimu  hone ga furueru"

* The order is different in sung lyrics!

Memories and sky

"The wind of your gaze has pierced a hole through my forehead
and continues to sweep over the world."

"Erase all with only light, leave me without delight.
       People are left nameless… Everyone disappears… "

"Screams, sobs, panting voices… As to interrupt them
       silence spreads, enveloping them…"

"While I recall the day when, as a child, I first became aware of death
I am alone with the light blocked out, possessed by my haunting room."

"The day when… all the colors disappear from the world…"

"When I meet you again… Will you want to kill me?
Will you want to hold me?"

"The memories and sky I embraced… More than words, more than feelings, only you before my
       eyes.
Nostalgic memories, and now… my eyes are dazzled, my legs are paralyzed, my bones creak, my
       bones shiver."

So first off, I think the lyrics to this song are very interesting. It is quite clear that these are all quotes and pieces of conversation from these 'memories' tied together by the (fantastic) last verse, so there are different nuances and emotions that make this song one of my favourites of theirs.

I thought about the "I am alone possessed by my haunting room" for a while because in the way it's worded, it almost seems like the room itself is 'frightened', but I interpreted it as "the room I am/was frightened by". Also, a more accurate translation to "hikari wo saketa" would be "I avoided the light". I chose "with the light blocked out" because I think it fits better in the sentence and sort of describes the miserable condition our vampire finds himself in, stuck in his dark room. I wonder if they risk turning into glitter if exposed to light like on Twilight or if that's out of the lore,

Let me know if you have any thoughts! Thank you for reading and thank you Maiden Death for the code! Background by John Salmon.

thank you for the translation!! while I've not heard the song, the lyrics are very heartfelt & relatable. I think they capture the 'uncertain' side of grief really well- 'should I even feel this way? I don't think so, but what other option do I have?', in a way that's viscerally reminiscent of when I was doubled over with grief & regret about a month ago. it felt exactly as the lyrics portray.
also, the stained glass image in the background is super cool !!! :3

Thank you so much for your comment and insight! I am so sorry to know you went through that and I send you a big hug. I think that in such times music (and art in general) is one of the most helpful things, because it allows you to see what you feel from another angle and think about it differently, right?
If you feel like it and you enjoy gothic/punk-ish sounds (I don't know how to describe it, but don't expect a sad ballad), I recommend you give the song a listen! I think the lyrics really come to life, and it has quite a unique atmosphere

Thanks again :)
