Roasting books I've read recently;
Friends with Secrets - started out as a cute funny book for moms, took a drastic turn which wasn't bad in theory, but execution was lame. They tried to give the main character a drawback but said drawback was written like a strength. Not a lot of plot holes but a lot of highly unrealistic situations to explain certain outcomes. Humor style gets old quick. Wouldn't recommend.
All Tomorrow's - fucking fantastic, honestly this book is the equivalent of a game you get addicted to and wake up early to play. Getting a version with pics is mandatory. Go read it. It's basically a dark twist on speculative biology.
Don't Forget Me - a who done it. I admit it had me fearful of everyone, but about halfway through I realized who it was and it was pretty lame after that. There's so many better mystery stories out there. This one feels rushed and simplistic.
The Man Who Was Thursday - honestly the tension and mystery behind this had me hooked. Even when I could predict some things, it didn't answer everything. Honestly I still have questions. It's one of those books that has a deeper meaning but you can also enjoy it just as well on the surface level. Great pacing, never had a 'oh God I have to read this whole chapter ' feeling.
Witches' Lens - one thing I love about the fantasy genre is I can not fucking predict it, because I don't know dick about fantasy. It was an interesting read but it felt rushed. There were some foreshadowing that led nowhere. There was the hint of relationship building that never happened and is assumed. There's so many things the author made note to discuss, that had no pay off. Maybe they ran out of time, steam, whatever, but there should have been more to this story.
Despite this it starts off strong then gets very Mary Sue halfway through and making other characters uncharacteristically weak. Could have been a really good book, but it's not.
