AzuPong - Much progress made in last couple of days

Ok, so since my last post 2 days ago, me and Yuresko have been working a lot on the game's development. And so far, I think it's pretty rockinย ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽธ

On Monday I remade the entire pong match system in TurboWarp from the ground up. This included the paddle movement, scoring system, enemy level system, and more.

The enemy level decides how fast the enemy you're ponging against is. The previous system was crap and it capped at lvl 45 or 46, after that point the cpu had godmode and could basically instantly teleport to the ball. Which is bad, because I wanna have enemies with a higher level than that. The new system is thankfully much better and eliminates that problem.

I also added a draw mechanic. If you and the opponent have the same score when the timer runs out, it will give you 2 more minutes to beat them. (This was at Yuresko's suggestion)

I have programmed TWO entire boss battle sequences now, those being AVGN and Dr. Mario:

AVGN is the last boss you will fight in Chapter 1 and Dr. Mario is planned to be the first, which is why his level is only 23. They are complete with wallpapers and BGM, each boss you fight will have their own custom theme song. AVGN's theme is "AVGN Theme (mnec20 RMX)" and Dr. Mario's theme is Dr. Soulja by toonlink.

Bosses will have special abilities, which activate when the player scores a goal. AVGN's is a fireball that speeds up when he hits it. Dr. Mario's special is a big pill capsule that floats up and down and helps him block the ball. Every boss special lasts for 15 seconds, but it replenishes when the player scores another goal on them for added challenge. I might change this later though..

As you can see the UI is also a massive improvement from last time, this is thanks to the lovely Yuresko who designed it. He also designed the goofy Chiyo-chichi paddles.

I have also remade the main menu, Chiyo and Tomo's battles from the tutorial in ver. 0.1, and the opening scene dialogue. Basically, the story so far is that you arrive at the Azumanga high school on your first day, and while Chiyo is teaching you the basics of the game, Tomo picks a fight with you to try and steal theย ยฅ1000 Chiyo lent you. Depending on whether you win or lose certain matches, the story will branch off in a certain direction, so there will be multiple endings.

Also, the first half of Chapter 1 will appear like a fairly normal Azumanga fangame, before things get noticeably more shitposty (like AVGN and Dr Mario showing up for example).

This is going to be a big project, so I'm starting to take note of things like optimization and making sure the file size is as small as it can be, so it can be uploaded to Scratch/TurboWarp when it's finished. If it's too big in the end, I'm thinking of maybe splitting the game up into its individual chapters, or just posting the file on Google Drive or someplace for people to download.
