Mari Ibarra

I fucking love Mari as a person and character. She's so sweet to Akilah on the plane when they first meet and instantly makes her feel safe. I don't think her Lottie era was all that bad because the thing about Mari is that she is not a follower or a leader, she is an advocate of her own beliefs, and arguably the most rational person in the show. She sees Lottie first hand have a bear BOW down to her and let it be killed with a knife, and she witnesses birds kill themself whem they offer the symbol blood. It is MOT that far fetched for a teenage starved girl to see this and genuinely believe Lottie can save them.

I'm also not mad that she got upset at Nat and Travis (although I love them) for not bringing back game or for being against Lotties rituals, Mari is s starving teenage girl and she genuinely believes Lottie can help them through her power, so it makes sense she's upset that Nat is refusing her sacrifices because she has a true belief it WILL help which again, is reasonable from what she's witnessed Lottie do! But notice how she hates Shauna and even when Shauna is the leader or intimidates them to vote against Ben, Mari never sways? I saw a take that Mari kisses up to leaders which isn't true. She didn't suck up to Shauna, she constantly opposes her. Did she rat out Ben? Yes. Because she was afraid of Shauna? Not necessarily. She knew she couldn't come up with a cohesive lie, and with her injured ankle she wouldn't be able to run or resist the girls, so to her- why not save her skin instead of BOTH of them suffering? And it's not like she's hapyp about it. Her telling Nat she did a good thing solidifies that. Mari isn't a sheep nor leader but again, an advocate of her own belief. Her final moments are allowing the girls to make it home and fighting back against Shauna, because she believes they deserve to go home. And I love her for it.
