the weird world of EAS scenario videos

so ive gone down this weird rabbit hole of emergency alert system scenario videos. if you dont know, EAS is a real world system used across the entire world for alerting people of dangerous stuff. its a pretty old system and is used for radios and tvs. if there an amber alert, tornado, tsunami, disease, or even some crazy shit like a nucular bomb you are going to hear an EAS. 

i suppose the reason why its so uniquely scary is because its so primal with the way it psychologically strikes you in a way that immediately makes you panic. if you dont find alarms too scary, i highly reccomend checking out a compilation of EAS alarms around the world. if you think the US one is scary you will actually fuckin die hearing the other ones.

anyway, to the point. so theres also another rabbit hole of EAS videos for fake eas scenarios. if you wanna know what it would look like on tv if a bomb hit canada, you can probably find a fake eas video on it! and if you want to know what an eas alarm in the scp universe would sound like you can totally find that.

so ive REALLY gone down the rabbit hole of this. and ive found some absolute dogshit that is soo SO funny lmfao. now my favourite recent past time is to watch these and sit there like some weird movie critic. 

the worst of the worst ones that really piss me off/ make me laugh big time are the ones that try wayyy too hard to be like analog horror instead of letting the fear of an eas shine through. especially when the entity hacks the tv and is all like "oooohhh your gonna DIE viewer your gonna DIE and theres nothing you can do about it hahahahahahah" . ive also seen a few that have just straight up taken faces/jumpscares from other analog horrors?

i also really dont like when they use ai voices. like.... tts is very common in eas so you can use it. that or use your own/friend voices. if it sounds crappy, then its okay. 

becuase i feel like it, heres a good guide of what not to do AND what to do!

What you should do

-make sure you at least have a vague idea of what year or era you want your alarm to be. if its in the current era or the future, DONT MAKE IT VHS STYLE. unless theres a good reason, but usually just dont.

-also have an idea of where this is taking place! if you want it to be unique, make it outside of the us

-use tts or your own voice if needed

-REPEAT INSRUCTIONS OVER AND OVER. this is what they do in real life. 

-use ambience outside the program the viewer is watching (screaming, airblasts) sparingly

-optional, but if you want to make it feel more realistic you can play ads before the eas happpens! theres lots of old ad compilations on youtube for you to find. it can also give you a good idea of what filters you should add over your video to make it more accurate to whatever era your're trying to base off

-if you want to show time has passed, show dont tell!

-keep whatever the eas script is trying to describe less frightening. so it seems like the goverment is trying to make it seem less serious to not freak out the masses

What NOT to do

-using aggressive VHS filter esspecially when it isnt from the era you are trying to aim for

-use ai stuff in any way

-in the scenario on live tv, dont use those stick figure things to describe what to do or what the entity looks like. in a eas, they wouldnt have enough time to put that shit together.

-dont do the stupid cuts to the entity possesing the tv. if you are, do it right or within reason

-dont make sound effects too loud, like static.

-dont do door knocking sound effects, it lazy

-dont use real people, or other peoples monster creations (unless its a fan made project or with permission)
