nothing lasts, so why chase it?

hey there, here i jst want to share abt something that always coming up in my mind. why do people seek temporary pleasure?? people chase love, happiness, excitement, basically everything, just to feel something for a moment? that's kinda weird. but i'm more talking about people who date just to feel something, who do drugs, who smoke, who buy stuff they don’t even need. i jst don’t get it.

why do people love buying new things? yeah i get it, u feel happy after u get what u want. but then? after a while, it gets old, and u stop caring about it. it just sits there collecting dust. same thing with relationships. at first, it’s all fun and exciting. u meet someone, u fall for them, everything feels amazing. u spend time together, make memories, share laughs. but then? one day, u wake up and realize the feelings aren’t as strong anymore. the excitement fades, boredom, and suddenly, breaking up feels like the only option. it's like people only want the thrill and not the commitment. because love can burn like a cigarette, its quick, its intense, but fading just as fast.

and smoking? dude, maybe it looks cool at first. u try it, u cough, but then that feelings from the nicotine hits, and suddenly, u wanna do it again.. and again. u start telling urself it's just for fun, just to feel something. but before u know it, it’s not fun anymore. it’s a habit. an addiction. and guess what’s waiting for u at the end of that road? a frickin lung cancer. health problems. regret. all for what? just to chase a feeling that never lasts?

same with drugs. people start because they’re curious, or they just wanna escape reality for a bit. one high turns into another, and before they know it, they’re stuck in a cycle, needing more and more just to feel "okay". and then what? their body gives out, their life spirals, and it all ends in nothing. was it worth it?

so what’s the point? what’s the point of chasing something that was never meant to last??? i think about this a lot. how do u find happiness that doesn’t just fade away?? how do u feel at peace forever?? i don’t think there’s an answer. maybe it’s impossible. and yeah, i do stuff to distract myself too, like playing games, scrolling through my phone for some temporary entertainment. but at the end of the day, i still wonder. what's the actual point of it?

temporary pleasure is an escape. If someone is happy they wouldn't need those temporary pleasures.

now as for how to be happy...idk

Honestly, should our goal even be to be happy? Life happens, sometimes life makes us happy, sometimes sad, upset...there's ups and downs and that's what makes every moment of your life precious and valuable.

And I would argue that temporary pleasures are a part of life's experience.

i get what u mean. maybe people chase temporary stuff because they’re just tryna escape something deeper. and yeah, life isn’t just about being happy all the time, sometimes it sucks, sometimes it’s good, and that’s what makes it feel real i guess. maybe i’ve been looking at it too black and white. thanks for sharing ur view, it actually made me think a bit

there is no point, you just get dopamine and feel happy for a while and then chase after that happiness again, its all abt not thinking abt the big picture and only focusing on ur happiness in the moment

that’s exactly what i’ve been thinking too. like people just keep chasing that tiny hit of dopamine without ever stopping to ask why. it’s kinda scary how easy it is to fall into that cycle, just living moment to moment and ignoring the bigger picture. maybe that’s why everything feels so empty sometimes :/

i see where ur coming from and as u said its easy to fall into and people prefer meaninglessly feeling a little bit happy than actually understanding why they do things, ignorance is bliss and most people choose to just ignore the overlying issue and keep chasing after dopamine, its sad to think about sometimes

for me it just feels like a waste of time. like yeaa u enjoy it for a bit, but then what?? it’s gone, and u gotta chase the next thing. i’d rather work towards something that actually lasts, something real, instead of just hopping from one temporary high to another.
